Disable fog of war for observers
I'm not sure about it wasn't posted before but checking 250 results in search isn't very funny. The idea : don't you think that observers should be able to turn off fog when observing MP game ?
Pretty sure its been discussed, but in any case the answer is no, or at least a functional no, because nobody wants to go through the trouble of doing so.
I like having fog on as an obs because you get to see what the player is seeing, so you can more accurately judge what he's going to do. So you'd need some sort of way to keep that factor in. That would either take significant coding, and/or mess up the GUI because it would need an on off button. Neither seem to me being worth the effort of just waiting until the opponent's turn comes up. If someone wants to code this its up to them, but don't expect much sympathy.
For now this thread is in soft lock. That is unless someone actually comes forward to say they will do this. Ignore my warning and I'll just lock the thread.

I suspect having one foot in the past is the best way to understand the present.

IMO it's really hard to see how well a player is doing if you have fog of war off. It's so hard to tell yourself again and again, "but that wasn't a stupid move, because they don't know there's a horseman just behind the fog ready to charge their leader!"
Also it makes it very difficult for observers to chat with players because the observers might inadvertantly let something on.

Note: I'm not saying we should.
That said, it would be pretty easy to retain Dave and Noy's interest in seeing what the players see, by implementing a semi-transparent fog that shows the observer what the player can see, but doesn't limit them to the same constraints.

Eh apparently I accidently deleted my part of the post.... but I'd hazard it involves a bit of coding for little positive benefit.irrevenant wrote:Note: I'm not saying we should.
