New ability : Absorb Essence

Post by irrevenant »

A unit with this ability gains one trait from any unit it kills. It can only gain each trait once.

P.S. I don't like the name very much, but couldn't come up with a better one.

That is one of the most interesting special ability ideas I've seen. Sounds like something to give to a ghost line or some other type of undead.

For RPGs and such, that would be too strong. Maybe it can only get one ability at a time? Maybe you get a list with abilities that you drained and on AMLA you can select one (more).

However true that might be, wesnoth isn't developed with RPG's in mind.

I think it's a nice ability, maybe give it as an optional AMLA to the necrophage?

That sounds interesting... However, it should not be given to any lvl-1-unit, or else it would be too strong imo.

Campaigns have RPG elements, atleast you can get many kills with a character there.

I like the idea of being able to only steal one trait at a time. It's a good idea, too.

The absolute worst this ability could do is give you an unit that is strong, resiliant, intelegent, quick, healthy, dexterouse, and undead. Granted this is a substancial boost, but all that realy means is that there is and extra incentive to kill the unit with this ability before he can start collecting, once he has all those traits it becomes a useless ability, unless it was used in an era with a zillion extra traits.

This isn't all that bad; it prevents this ability from becoming overpowered...

That was accualy the point I was getting at, people were commenting on the potential for it to become overpowerd

Does it collect traits or abilities? There's a big difference between those...

Traits. An ability-thief is an interesting, but different, idea.

It was inspired by the old "if you eat the heart of your enemy you gain his strengths" mythology. The mechanism doesn't have to be the same, of course. :)

Ability-stealing would be overpowered, unless it is limited to a certain number of turns...(I mean, what if you steal an amazing power and keep it?)
Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

Mb always steal a trait from last killed unit (random one or eventually both/all traits) and replace previous one ? Would be interesting.
If it's all a dream, now wake me up. If it's all real, just kill me.

Oh well, I liked the idea with getting each trait once better though. :?
