A dodgy Wesnoth video about Isar's

Post by bert1 »

I've managed to cobble together an audio commentary on the first couple of turns of an example Wesnoth game:

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2ack3_wesnoth2ogg

It's pretty ropey, but I'm just hoping it will inspire better qualified people to have a go at something similar. Better still, I'm hoping any players of interesting tournament games might want to do a commentary on one of their replays.

I recorded the video using gtk-recordMyDesktop:

http://recordmydesktop.sourceforge.net/about.php

I then buggered about for a bit converting the theora-ogg file into an mpeg4 so I could upload it to daily motion. I reluctantly abandoned linux and used SUPER on my girlfriend's computer, which is a very good program with a rubbish name:

http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html

If any of the Management object to the video for any reason just let me know and I'll take it down.

My voice is horrible and not sexy at all, which has shattered a long-held illusion of mine.

I loved it; great job.

No reason to dislike your voice- Sounds pretty normal to me.
:)

I'd like to see more things like this, from you and/or others. Maybe I'll give it a go myself at some point.

Interesting video, but I wish the volume were higher on it - it was difficult for me to hear clearly without turning my computer's volume up.

Same here. It was also kind of blurry, might have been nice to have a higher resolution so you can distinguish what units are which.

Excellent! Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, I just watched it again and it's much blurrier than the original ogg-theora version. And the sound is quiet, but at least it's fairly clear.

I tried to find a fullscreen option on the dailymotion website, but couldn't find one. That might help make the units clearer. (Might try youtube instead) I selected the highest resolution acceptable for upload. I think it was 640*480. Which is odd because plenty of other videos on there look perfectly OK. Well, when I have time I'll have a couple more experiments and see if I can improve the quality.

EDIT: Thanks to Doc for saying my voice sounds normal! It's always weird hearing oneself for the first time.

Thanks for the tip, but I tried it and nothing happened. I put the vid on youtube which did go fullscreen, but that just made the blurs bigger, so no improvement.

There was loss of quality both from the conversion from theora to mpeg4 and from uploading the mpeg4 to the web. I'll try youtube's recommendations and see if that improves things. I'll have to wait a bit as I've reached my monthly limit on down/uploads. I'll post again if I can get an improvement in quality. I'm sure there are plenty of ways to get a decent quality vid up there, if only I wasn't so pre-warp...

Where's Zephram Cochrane when you need him.

here is a solution

this site offers you the possibility to play movies form dialymotion, youtube, myspace, veoh, and others in full screen mode just by copying the "Embeddable Player" code given by dailymotion.

Enjoy ;)
