What pisses me off in Multiplayer

Post by Radament »

This is all from the last three days. Pretty frustrating, given that i spend quite some time i spare for Wesnoth dealing with this kinda crap.

1. Some people leave after they loose a couple of units and probably restart new games until they get a lucky streak and smack the opponent for good on the first turn.
2. Some keep on spamming "play FASTER!!" I'm gathering evidence that they're lacking the cognitive skills to differentiate between Wesnoth and Grand Theft Auto, probably due to excessive consumption of amphetamines.
3. Those same people, if they waited so long as it's their turn, furiously attack from swamps, water, plains, whatever. Then they usually become subject of item 1.
4. Some spam only one type of unit. Today i saw about 10 trolls, backed by a troll leader, rampaging on a map. Every turn it made me dizzy to see and hear a dozen of trolls regenerate.

I know, you always get a buncha idiots, we're humans after all, and actually the community is really cool. I just needed a vent.

i know its hard to get a decent 2v2, usually at least 1 player is a noob and gets his side to lose.

but, when there are multiplayer-orientated games, then there are noobs, this is inevitable when trying to get a large audience for a game.

I can attest that, I was facing them as elves and had trouble to kill some of them (before he applied section 1 of Radament's guide "How to get frustrated..."). :(

Hopefully he had trouble to kill my unit too. "unit" is not plural :D

P.S : good job Radament
P.P.S : he wasn't Higher Game, I observed his replay, it's not a scatological nick and not the same way of playing.

I agree with numbers 1, 2 and 4 (this rebel player spammed mages and archers while I spammed ulfs :P), but i've never played against number 3s yet.
What annoys me more though is that every time I seem to log on, the same damn 8 player games are on the server EVERY TIME! And there's never enough passable players left for a 2v2 because of that.

I have played many games where one type of unit is spammed, the stupidest was the spamming horsman, but I have also seen trolls massed and elvish archers massed and griffens massed (that game was particularly annoying because of the sever ammount of luck he had). There was even a game where the other person massed ulfserkers, when I asked him why he told me that he had never played before but he liked berserkers. I think that half the people I have tryed to teach this to wanted to create one or two unit types olny. The olny two that I havn't are my brother and one of my freinds who occasionaly comes over and playes board games with me.

LOL. (happens so much...)

If they quit, I beat the crap out of an AI. If they say, hurry up, i kick them. If they attack from bad terrain consistently, I laugh when they quit, then beat the crap out of the AI. When they make a bunch of one unit, and I start beating them, and they complain, I kick them. They DESERVE it. It's pretty fun though :)

#3 and #4 is just novicedom at work. If they don't engage in #1 they'll learn better over time...

You can beat the crap out of the AI any time you want. When I go online, I am looking to play against humans! So yeah, I appreciate your optimistic attitude, but I am inclined to disagree :-(

On the flip side of the coin, I've seen non-noob players leave when their teammate starts getting overpowered. It's also annoying.

You go online to beat the crap out of humans? When I want to beat the crap out of humans, I go to the pub!

Number 2 can be valid since some players play soooo slowly. I think there's a Wesnoth cult out there dedicated to playing slowly to force other players to quit because it takes 2 hours to get to turn 4. But then again, some people are just impatient.

if you want people to play faster simply set the time limits, thats what those are for.
Besides, this is a turn based strategy. A game can last long hours in this genre. To the impatient ones, i suggest some rts.
