REQUEST - Death animations for the mages

Ã¢â‚¬Â¢ Preface - this is not a topic to discuss the appearance of the new mages; any posts talking about that will be unceremoniously deleted. Also, this project is probably not aimed at Eternal/Zhukov, they have their hands full doing other good things.

I would like some help in converting the frames of the old death animations for the mages to their new appearance, and also in expanding these old animations. Right now, the few death animations we have are only 4 frames long, and look to be rather poorly done; they really need some 6-8 frames or so. Fortunately, we can expand the existing animations, rather than creating new ones from scratch.

Right now, we have death animations for the old versions of the mage, red mage, and white mage; if possible, I'd like to get death animations for all of the mages done.

SO, starting from the top, here is the new base frame for the level-1 mage. You can find the images for the old death animation in your copy of wesnoth; the first step is to recolor those, and post them here.

Would you like the animation be an exact match of old version? Or we are free to make adjustments? I'll give a try to the female one.

I assume by this you mean JUST recolor them, so I took a shot at it. Hopefully this isn't a waste of my/your time. I didn't attempt to change any of the details.

One version has the grey stripe, on the other I did not add it, take your pick (in case I misplaced it on mine.)

(Edit: The obvious question, in case it's not so obvious, is should I continue like this?)

YES, please do continue like this!

We will change the details, AFTER the recoloring is done as a first step. Feel free to change any of the other details to match the new sprites, if you feel up to it - I'm only breaking this down into steps to make it easy for people. (For example, you adding in that grey stripe was a good thing).

And THANK YOU for jumping at this - I hope that others are willing to help out, too - this should be rather easy if we all work together. I'm currently working on porting all the other frames for the mages - I've just finished the ranged attack as I post this.

Most welcome. Here are the rest of the frames for the male. I didn't add the stripe to this batch as I wasn't sure where it ought to be positioned. Note that the old frames used many more shades than the new one; I used only colors present in the new base frame and tried to substitute them in by eye. So, some retouching of the shading might be necessary.

I might be able to attempt adding the scarf to these, but I can't guarantee it would come out acceptably.

Excellent. Exactly what I was hoping would be done - I wanted to clean it up in exactly that way.

I did some recouloring and made that details like book, so is this what you want?

Even though these have massive room for improvement, I myself am going to commit them as they are right now - I've just finished the rest of the frames for the unit.

After I get all the mages into SVN, then I myself will tend to tweaking things up.

For a next step, if people could try changing the red mage's death animation to match the attached base frame, that would be great:

Here are the level 1 frames with the scarf added. I don't much like how frame 3 came out, and might redo it later. I split frame 4 into two frames, but three might be even better.

What I have so far for the female Red Mage....
"Real life" intruded, so I didn't get as much done as I had hoped.
Anyway, let me know what y'all think.
My computer skills are kinda "very suck", so if one of the admins or anyone else wants to put all of these in one animation, go ahead....
