RSS for Wesnoth releases

Post by Viliam »

Maybe it would be useful to make an RSS feed for Wesnoth releases. It would contain messages about released versions and prepared packages. People could subscribe to this RSS feed, and they would not have to look at forum whether new version is already done... it would notify them automatically, so they will not miss anything.

Maybe more useful would be multiple RSS feeds. One for source code releases; a few for binaries on each operating system. For example if someone needs windows binaries, they would subscribe just to this one.

These feeds could technically be static files; it would be not difficult to edit them... just copy one template and fill in a few values. Or I can make some simple editing system.

I would nominate using the News section on the wesnoth homepage as your source for RSS feeds. Releases are announced there with the occaisional other goodies.

Just having a feed on the home page would suffice - is that doable?

Of course. We can hotlink the SF.net feed; projects are encouraged to do so. Otherwise, I can write a quick feed fetching and caching script and we can host the feed locally.

That's great!!!

If you want to write a caching script, maybe it would be good to provide two feeds: all releases, and stable releases (they can be determined by number of version; even = stable, odd = development).
