Help meStop Consistant losing.

Post by Karnage »

Ok, I play the stable version of the game to clear things up. I simply cannot win using the Northerners on the Blitz map (stable version) against a Knalgan opponent. I have read many forums about how to play against them, and their backstab, berserking and riders simply own any potential warrior of the orc race. I do not wish to siwtch races as I have come to favor the northerners very much for their versartility (save for this particular match-up).

any help here is appreciated.. maybe first recruits, and initial moves, unit vs unit and more importnantly certain locations opn the map where i could excel. Thanks guys, Karnage

Step 1: Don't use the stable version. It is somewhat unbalanced compared to the dev version.

Step 2: Read this. The writer knows his stuff.

Step 3: As a general hint, use a lot of poison against Knalgans.

Find someone to play with that can give you feedback as you go.
Even better if you can play hotseat with that person.

Bummer...

i really liked the stable version as the graphics were simple and didn't take much to load. The mouse moves slow in the newest release.

Indeed. In the stable version, uneven matchups and unbalanced maps abound.

Are you Doc Paterson?

If so, the alias thing is getting old.

I couldn't disagree more, Zhukov. These crazy antics make me turn over in my grave (a disintegrated airplane in the middle of the desert) with laughter.
I flew a nuclear bomb into a chasm to save all you punks, and this is the thanks I get?

Against Northerners you'll want to recruit trolls, assassins, and a few grunts for village holding/ulfserker killing. The dwarfs won't be in the center island very much, as they are slow, so try to keep a small force there that can mobilize to either side as is necessary. 1 unit on each forest hex should suffice, if you need any there at all.

I'd probably go aggressively for his water and swamp villages with nagas, as Knalgans don't have a true water unit. The costly Gryphon only has 50% defense over water where the Naga has 60%. If you can ever ZOC a Gryphon, do so and abuse it. It's death will get you ahead 2 Grunts wotrth of gold.

Also, I'd wait for the Knalgans to try to expand across the center and then pick them apart when they are closer to your keep - and with your more abundant units. You should be able to cycle your front line very well against Knalgans if you use an appropriate mix of cheaper units to soak up damage (not goblins).

Poison dwarves when you can, and try to kill any Outlaws he recruits as fast as possible. They are much easier targets to kill and will severely cripple the player's mobility. The Thief costs more than a Grunt, mind you, and the Poacher more than a Troll. -I think you see where this is leading.

All-in-all, if you don't over-aggress, this fight shouldn't be as hard as you make it seem against an evenly-skilled opponent. In fact, I'd rather play Northerners in this matchup.

Best of luck in your path to victory.
