Use of old wesnoth code for RPG
if wesnoth is an open source game, you should allow access to old versions of the source that allowed for features such as ranged units shooting over multiple hexes. Then people could work on these versions and modify them, and possibly create a different wargame or another version of wesnoth. If there were more games based off a modified wesnoth engine, It would add to the variety of open source games. Also, if you don't want it released as another version of Wesnoth, My Friend and I could form an entirely new history and setting. We want to modify the engine to play as more of a role playing gmae, because all our attempts at a computer role playing game have failed misersably. When we saw Wesnoth, we saw the perfect opportunity to have something to start with. It is graphicly sound and has a working engine already. We plan to use this engine as our base and add/subtract to it as needed. However our main problem is that we are not that experienced and would like the old source code that includes the ranged units being able to attack over multiple hexes. We plan on making villiages something other than a sngle hex and basicly breaking majority of the rules that you said could never be implemented. If we could create an open source RPG with some of the mechanics of wesnoth, it would be easier for Wesnoth players to pick up and play. It would most likely be sort of like the final fantasy tactics style of play in that it would allow for far more movement of units than a traditional RPG and therefore bring a new level of strategy to the game. We would really apreciate a link to the old source code and would love to make a game based on the wesnoth engine. Let us know if you want us to use the wesnoth setting or our own setting to place this game in.

We have a history of changes in our Subversion repository. You can get a version of the game as at any date you want using Subversion.Evilninjamonkey wrote:if wesnoth is an open source game, you should allow access to old versions of the source that allowed for features such as ranged units shooting over multiple hexes.
The GPL that Wesnoth is distributed under allows you to do this.Evilninjamonkey wrote: Then people could work on these versions and modify them, and possibly create a different wargame or another version of wesnoth.
