Wesnoth Server

Post by Mith »

Perhaps the wrong forum, but I couldn't think of any better.

First of all, this might look like spam - and perhaps you judge it to be spam - but it is not intented to be spam ;) I am in no way related to Sun.

Probably this is totally uninteresting for the Wesnoth project, but maybe it is highly interesting.
Sun is 'giving away' $5k servers. It's not exactly for free, you can 'evaluate' a Sun Fire T2000 for about 60 days, after which they have to be returned (Sun pays) or purchased (you pay). Nevertheless, Sun might donate it if you write "a blog that fairly assesses the machine's performance (positively or negatively), send us a pointer, we're likely to let you keep the machine" (quote from Sun)
Read more on http://blogs.sun.com/jonathan (look for FREE SERVER (v2.0) - Honest! and for Niagara FREE TRIAL - Update) and https://www.sun.com/emrkt/trycoolthreads/index.html

The idea is that some dev with decent knowledge of Solaris 10 (it's the only OS running on that server right now) recieves and tests the server. He then writes a nice review, providing some real life stats as wesnoth server. (I guess the mp server doesn't yet run on that thing, so it will be limited to web server - including forum)
With some luck Sun concludes that the Wesnoth Project wrote a) a good review and b) can use some support and decides c) the server is donated to the project.

Of course, since it is by no means guaranteed that the server will be donated (hey, i'm not working for Sun, remember ;)) the one who's testing it should be someone that think it's fun testing the server
P --> Q if there are many about to P
