Why don't you just match the tentacles with the ones on your current avatar?
Check out the FOSS game Sumwars

(Of course this is just a suggestion from a noob)
Actually, I've had the same thought myself. It does look kinda unnatural, you're right. Thanks for the tip, I'll change that.

:annoyed: C'mon, I'm not that ambiguous when I post:

I'm taking a stab at making the sword master. Here's my first attempt. It was going fine until I realized it was starting to look too much like the lieutenant. Is that a problem for you? What I did was take the existing swordsman sprite, lengthen the blade, made his helmet longer and thinner, add a feather, and made the crossguard a bit longer.
Hmm... 1.8 has an icon with a corithian helm... maybe you could try a new approach and create someone with a corithian armor style?
What? No, I am not 26. Who said that? I'm only 14. Surprised?

Sure, why not? I can always use more practice, and I love creating armored guys (in case anyone doesn't know that by now :P ).

Okay, I'm kinda behind on my art schedule, so I guess I'd better post something. Here's an unstable construct, which is basically a vein-webbed mass of explosive goo that will explode 8 turns after it is recruited, damaging all units, both friendly and unfriendly, that are adjacent to it.

Some of your work is nice and blends well with the stock .png's. Which is always a +. :eng:

I would say that the dark borders between the parts of the newest sprite (i.e. his torso and shoulder, etc.) detract from the work.

Yeah, I was trying to go for a beer-belly look, but I guess it just isn't working.

And yes, it looks like someone dropped a beach ball on a T-55, but still... this originated as a practice in shading spheres, but I couldn't resist adding to it. :P

ANOTHER EDIT: I really should work on that mage sometime soon...

Sure, I'm not really doing much else art-wise. Could you be a bit more specific, please?

Inspired by my earlier balloon tank, I decided to make a real effort to come up with something cool. I'm not at all sure about the shading, but so far this is still a WIP. Any thoughts?

For the last two sprites:
Your going for the striped lighting look, which denies texture and other detail. I would politely suggest the traditional way of shading, which i think, (and others probably as well) looks better. :) Its a much more genuine look, and gives you complete control over things like texture (which by the way is an important factor when it comes to communicating what the unit is wearing, or in this case, what he's made of.
My spritework can be seen here.

I would if I could, but I'm not sure how to shade something like this that has large flat metallic surfaces.

I recall hearing that even TSI had troubles with shading large surfaces. The solution? Don't make large surfaces. Make areas compacted with detail. Large flat areas are one of the hardest things to deal with.

Oh, that one. Sure. :)

I'll try getting rid of the flat surfaces, although it seems like there really should be some way to do those.
