He really should use both arms for the attack.

I had to comment on something from earlier in the thread, especially since it has often been raised as an objection to having vampire units: vampires dying in sunlight, as far as I can remember, pure Hollywood.
I distinctly remember a scene in Bram Stoker's book in which Count Dracula is walking the streets in daylight, and even gets into a fight with van Helsing and the others, and successfully escapes their grasp. He was paler and weaker in daylight, but still capable of defending himself. In other words, Bram Stoker would support the weakened resistances for vampires in daylight over the loss of health.
Also, I would suggest that perhaps a vampire in a forest, being under the shade of the trees, would not suffer reduced resistances, even in daylight.

Simple is better. KISS. Gameplay is better than realism. And all of those other sayings that are used around here to refute most ideas. :)

(not IIRWIIR, though... that doesn't really apply here.)

Plus, how hard would it be to code that bug free? Seems like it would be a big pain in the ass.

The idea about a Vampire campaign can be really good, but need a good study for the support troops.
By making the Vampires weak at the daylight, you need something to balance (But not overpower) that weakness.
I think that would be good that the Vampires can "recruit" normal people that have been previously charmed.
It would be, maybe, something seen over and over, but it can be good.
But, those human, can't evolve in anything, and they are somewhat similar to Walking Corpse, but with more hp.
A good thing could be a Charming ability, for level 3+ Vampires, that can Charm one enemy troop and prevent them from attacking the Vampire, but not the other troops, for one turn.
Another good point could be the non capability of Vampires to siege or stand in Towns. If they do so, they will lose HP, because of some sort of "angry mob".
Plus it makes possible to make a new class, the Vampire Hunter.

I'll return to the original topic: what happened to them.

They are extremely associal and other fantastic creatures refuse to inhabit the same world as vampires, with the exception of lycanthrops who occasionally agree to, but sometimes only for the purpose to fight the vampires. Or whatever. The fact is the vampire mythology is a separate one and you can either have vampires, or the others, but not both.

Name a book where vampires exist beside elfs, trolls, orcs, and dragons.

I dont see the point, where's the problem?

Wesnoth is not based on any fiction directly, so Vampires can coexist with all the other Races that are in the game.
When you create a game, and, most importantly, a Background, you dont need to follow something that have been written before, but you can create a brand new reality, just trying to be coherent with the plot you are writing down.
And Wesnoth is one of those games that "listen" to his players, so, in part, all the community can help improving this world.

Try the books by Dennis L. McKiernan. Not that this has any relavence to Wesnoth.

Why the size=9? :?

And the point is... wesnoth will not have vampires because no major devs support it, and some seem to be against it. :) (plus its not like we have had an outpouring of users saying "get vampires in the game"... its been >5 people, IIRC).

What problem is where? The point is the answer to thread title. Vampires usually don't mix with elfs and dwarfs, that's all.

Sure.

Sure, even though there's a difference between imagination coherent with existing works, patterns, and general cultural heritage and randomly mixing everything that existed up to the point.

Actually, if improvement means adding something. I'd personally remove quite a few things and consider it an improvement, but to suggest it is only a sure way to piss off people who like it with no other effect.

Yes, yes. I didnt say "You have to put that in, you [censored]!" or something like that, I was just wondering how to make it ucceptable in terms of balance :)

Thats why I said it needs some study, just because you canit put what you wish randomly, as you say.
But it doesnt matter in terms of coherence, if we can make it all fits logically.

I agree with you in this point, there are some "problems" or unbalances that needs a fix, and that comes first than any Vampire, Werewolf, Alien or Multilanguageextremelypowerfulandoversized cyborg.

To make matters simple: think about what you say before you say it, Yeti. You just made yourself sound like a friggin idiot. Really, you did. Your point has no merit whatsoever.

So, when you have a REAL point, state it. Otherwise, please, just keep it to yourself.

Turin, however, now there's a real point. No major devs have shown much support toward Vampires, if any. Without any support from said persons, no vampires will be present in the normal campaigns of the game. My hope is that if I can, with several others, put together a decent user-made campaign, then maybe it will make it into the game.

Hell, if not, it'll still be a lot of fun making up a campaign, the graphics, everything. I like challenges of this sort (seeing as to how I'm awful with graphics and have no coding skill whatsoever -- this will prove as an interesting challenge), so it should be fun either way.

Also...Plasticgod...just...er...kick ass! I like your ideas. Quite a lot. In fact, that helps me with starting off the story of the campaign, since I was searching for something that made some kind of sense. I'll private message you with some ideas, etc etc.

Anyways...any reasonable feed back is much needed and very appreciated. Just leave the stuff that doesn't have any need here out, please.

~Tobias
