Kitty's Merfolk: Finished

Re: Kitty's Merfolk: Fighter
I suppose its his hair :pZigg wrote:What's the Green thing on top of the Fighter?
The portrait looks nicely, and call me weird but I was thinking you would have choosen a giant oyster as a helm (perfored so it had space for the head :p)
Ammonites shells looked also like a possible way for them to use (and I suspect the shells would be more common than giant oysters (but, still this was only a vision).
The only thing that the portrait its giving a "curious" and weird sensation is on the neck part, where is a dark color going from the "mandible?) up to chest and I don't know what it is nor intent.

I'm eager to see the shading on this one. and a bravo for the composition!

Zigg/melinath: Yes, it is supposed to be hair. And no it does not need to be wet all the time. The merman generally are not pictured as if underwater.
Verdanna: What you propose for the design of the helmet would work too, but I think my version is truer to the sprite. And the dark lines on the neck were supposed to be the ribbons holding the parts of his helmet together, but since they are not easily recognizable they will go.
grzywacz: Hmm, could you be more specific - what bothers you about the face? And I can't see what you think is wrong about they eyes as well...

Perhaps he means there appears to be a 'lazy' eye on our left, for there is a bit of the eye lid showing rather than on our right. Other than that the face looks fine to me, and I believe shading would have fixed everyone's issues.

Re: Kitty's Merfolk: Fighter
It's probably subjective, but he seems to be looking straight with the left eye and to the right with the other one.
The face looking a little bit like monkey will probably go away with shading. I think the lines under/over his mouth, wide nose and wide mouth cause my brain to interpret the face as sticking forward... A little bit like: http://fineartamerica.com/images-medium ... ilbert.jpg

Re: Kitty's Merfolk: Fighter
hmm, I fiddled around a bit with his face - I hope it looks alright for you now, too. And generally, grzywacz, if you know what bothers you that specifically it would help me more if you tried to explain it to me rather than stating that something is wrong.
Apart form that some progess on the shading but still not finished. Probably tomorrow.

Re: Kitty's Merfolk: Fighter
Feels like the face should be more overshadowed by that big helmet. And his right lower arm feels really quite thin. Otherwise, looks good.
What's the white spot on his left shoulder?

Noted, there'll be more shadow and more muscle in the next version.thespaceinvader wrote:Feels like the face should be more overshadowed by that big helmet. And his right lower arm feels really quite thin.
Huh? I don't see a white spot.thespaceinvader wrote:What's the white spot on his left shoulder?

I think he's referring to this spot.

Ah, not on the shoulder but on the armour - that's just the start for some barnacles. Will get clearer when finalizing the details, I hope.

Re: Kitty's Merfolk: Fighter

He's shapin' up real good. Do not hesitate to get wild with the shell plating for the upper levels, I feel they're a fine mark of age and experience for our merfolk !
As for this one, I'd do a little more barnacle on the armour instead of a single spot (I think it'll help identify it).
Also, it might not be finished yet but the armour can afford darker darks in some places, and some more work on the left upper chest/shoulder region, which currently feels a little flat.

Re: Kitty's Merfolk: Fighter
Small Nitpick. The left forearm looks a bit too slender and something else I can't put my finger on. Else nice stuff.
This girl, this boy, They were part of the land. What happens to the places we used to tend?

I think I took care of most comments and he seems pretty much finished now to me.

Hmm, I'll take the total lack of replies on the fighter as a good sign and declare him finished - TSI can you commit him tomorrow if nobody finds a serious flaw overnight? - thanks!
