Ok, I am locking this thread. The devs attention has been brought to a performance hit that should be addressed before the next stable release. Further discussion of the dev-user interface doesn't belong here.
If anyone has further useful information on what the source(s) of the any performance hit is, then please go ahead and start a new thread.
