I threw this together for the level 0, but if you'd rather use yours then go ahead.

This one's pretty neato... Depends on irrevenant's opinion, I hear he doesn't like styley lvl 0s very much :) This one looks good, but it may look too good.

I'm a bit torn. That guy looks L0 and he's so adorable hugging his staff like that. :)

OTOH, the other one is more clearly distinguishable from the L1.

Hmm.

I think your version's probably better if his bandana is removed so he looks less like the L1. I've had a go at doing that, as well as changing the staff colour so it doesn't blend with Gobby's skin so much and reducing the head height by a pixel (it looked kinda huge without the bandana, and I think it makes him look more forlorn).

I'm of two minds about the edit though, so if you want to remove the bandana yourself that's cool too.

Maybe I can repurpose the current Staffman for the Sneak line...

[EDIT] First draft of Sneak attached.

Nicely edited on the lvl 0. Sounds like the Staffmen branch is done :)

EDIT: I just understood what OTOH means! Woohoo!

Good job on the edit. He looks kinda cute now, even though I'm sure you aren't going for that.

Partly. Unlike regular goblins I want these guys to be kind of endearing...

[EDIT]
P.S. I viewed this thread under IE6 (rather than Firefox) earlier today, and it made the sprite backgrounds brown for me as well...

However, that means nothing, becasue even goblins that could classify as orcs would act as the free goblins becasue of how they were brought up.
I can see it now...

Papa Goblin: Junior, you have to eat your vegetables! They're good for you!
Mama Goblin: Now, Papa! Our society is built on the ideals of individual freedom and mutual respect. He doesn't have to eat his vegetables if he doesn't want to.
(At this point, "Junior," who is a massive orc, throws Papa out the window.)
Mama: *Sighs* That's the third stepfather you've gone through this week. I know you're already big and strong, but could you just once humor one of them and eat your veggies?

Is it too late to "un-picture" that whole scenario?

Habitus is a system of predispositions to action and belief acquired through inculcation in the family. External conditions of existence, mediated by the family determine the structures of the habitus which in turn become the basis of perception and appreciation of all subsequent experience. Basically there is a social and cultural preproduction within a society that even if a big orc appeared, it's LIKELY that it'll have a TENDENCY to behave SIMILAR those around him.

From biological point of view, a population can be viewed as a gene pool filled with different alleles. If this population is isolated enough, the occurance of big orcs would be very slim. Being very few in the population then it's probably not necessary to represent them in the faction.

Im doing all this crap in biology at the moment. Basically, you could just state the free goblins have been free from the orcs for a huge amount of time (200/300 years), and only one BIG orc is born every 20/30 years which could be used as a leader, or just thrown to the wild to die, but smaller orcs (more towards goblin size, a little stronger, a little bigger) would be born every few years.

If you increased the time they've been independant, the chances will be less, and orcs will generally get smaller and more goblin like the further you make the gap.
No animals were harmed in the making of this production

Another unit: The Woundpatcher. At this rate the faction'll be finished by 2012. :)

P.S. I've added the unit tree to the first post in this thread and I'll keep it up to date.

P.P.S. I've just rediscoved Steelclad Brian's forester art - I'm going to coopt that for the newly added "Forager" unit. [EDIT] Hmm, unfortunately it's more hefty looking than the L1. I'll have to whittle it down a bit, as well as add some T-colour.
