Why doesn't anyone say why they chose yes or no, or... is it because you don't know why?

This is a multiple-country game and times might be hard to scedule from different time zones.

My idea of Wesnoth time:

Give all 24 hours some names. For example "The hour of elf", "The hour of bat", "The hour of revenant",...

Somewhere in the game should be displayed the clock with the hours - both names and numbers. Now... the name-to-number relation depends on the time zone of the player. So for example one player would see:

12:00 - The hour of elf
13:00 - The hour of bat
14:00 - The hour of ogre

but the person in the next time zone would see:

12:00 - The hour of bat
13:00 - The hour of ogre
14:00 - The hour of drake

So if they say "let's play again tomorrow at the hour of ogre", both players mean the same time. However, the system does not make anyone feel like his/her time zone is the "correct" one... because is does not make sense to say whether "the hour of bat" really should be 13:00 or 12:00. ;-)

Hmm, I'm not sure about the sound of that: "Hey, you up for some multiplayer at quarter-past bat?".

Couldn't you just say I'll see you at 0000Z? Many digital watches support a 2nd time zone, and mine is GMT.

Maybe some preprocessing into the chat textfield could do the job.
For exemple:
hour(14:00)
could be translated from host local time to UTC for the server then translated again to destination localtime.
The day may change from a zone to another, also.

Simpler still you could use the Wesnothian day.
Dawn (1-4)
Morning (1-4)
Afternoon (1-4)
Dusk (1-4)
First Watch (1-4)
Second Watch (1-4)

You add the appropriate graphic to the MP lobby so people know what time it is "in Wesnoth." That way people don't need to learn the names of each hour.

The North Wind had 24 distinct time-of-day pictures made for it.

So if they say "let's play again tomorrow at the hour of ogre", both players mean the same time

I think Edward de Bono has suggested something similar for real world time. he suggests it would be more practical for everyone to have the same time (although different times would mean eg. "daybreak" to different people) and different seasons / months (but everyone's winter/January would mean the same - the coldest month) wherever they are on the planet -- instead of vice-versa.

But you'd be better off using GMT wouldn't you?

Oh no look out its a ray gun.
You should move to avoid the rays
the rays are coming out of the gun
if you are hit by the rays
you will be shot by the rays
the rays are fast so you should be fast to
can you win against the fast rays from the gun?

Dawn (1-4)
Morning (1-4)
Afternoon (1-4)
Dusk (1-4)
First Watch (1-4)
Second Watch (1-4)
For each of these we could have four adjectives too. So you could meet someone "at the brink of dawn" or "at the end of dusk". However, i'm having troubles to coin four adjectives that fit.
