Mage Portraits

Post by Jormungandr »

I've made a couple new unit portraits: male and female versions of the Mage.

Thoughts/opinions?

EDIT: Looking back at the female mage, I realized her head was a bit too asymmetrical. Fixed that.

Maybe he meant staves?

The female mage's hairline is a little iffy in my opinion.

They look to wussy! A mage should give more respect. Not be smiling like that. Perhaps some more shade froom their hoods over the face and the male could have some beard. The female should also have the same hairstyle as the in-game image...

Otherwise good.

It looks odd because of the flat shading.

I go with female mage here, it actually projects respect to it. Male mage has a more tender expression, so for a skirmish game (if only one portrait is gonna be added) i'll go with the female mage.

Well, the female mage has a very vacant, slightly happy expression that doesn't look very magelike, as well as having a strange hairline, which others have mentioned. The male mage on the whole is worse, I think because of the different color you chose for the skin.

On the whole, these are not among the best portraits you've done. I think your skills are better suited to inhuman creatures, like mermen, nagas and saurians... perhaps you want to try some drakes?

Having a happy expression is good.
The skin should be less corpse-like, though.

Maybe they are not the best, but I find the male mage very good.

Medieval fashion tip: it was considered attractive to have a large forehead, just as any preference, it wasn't common. It was so regarded this way that women actually came to cut some of their hair in the front, just to show some more forehead.

Same thing can be said for lily white skin.

But yeah, i know, may be a bad example :P .
