It's definitely an improvement over the current logo, but I still think there's too many random serifs. Especially on the left half of the "W" in Wesnoth. "the battle for" is pretty good, though, as is "esnoth".

The image I'm referring to here is the first one you posted. The ones you posted links to later I think are actually worse than it...

Those fonts are nice, but they are too much for the logo.

The best yet is the last rendition Woodwizzle, Pillager, and Jetryl were working on.

Keep it up guys, that was looking awesome.

Ups, ok, I didn't read all the thread and I tough the point was not to change "the spirit" or "the feel" of the actual logo. I see now that you're intending all the opposite... :P Well, by the way, what I posted were sketches of fonts (pure gothic); what I was trying to say is that I wouldn't like to see a common true type font used for the logo, I believe it's important to get an original font... I'd like to see more hand-made sketches... However those logos you're working on look very fine :)
Regards.

I agree on a common basic font being really boring compared to what we currently have. I mean, no otehr game will have the same style and feel to it if it's unique, but if it's a free font, there will surely be other games using a style not that far away.

I'd like to know if the artists can apply all that gold borders, shadows and furniture to a vector or a plain graphic fonts, or they need a Font file. Because if they can, we should tray to do a unique nice font for wesnoth...

Another classic example, the rounded one, for putting one of those eye candy shields inside :)

Note: ei, if I'm getting tedious with the fonts, feel free to say me... :P

Would a program like Adobe Illustrator be able to vectorize the drawing you posted above? Can Inkwell vectorize drawings?

Um, they are roughly made sketches drown with Inkscape, so they are vector graphics. If my scanner were working the letters would look a lot better for sure. I don't know about those programs you ask, but I suppose any vector graphics manipulation program should open an standard .svg file. I attach the file, in case you want to try.

I thought they were done by hand. They look good though. Carry on.

It looks very medieval. It's great. Maybe Simkin can make Jetryl's missing font.

simkin: That font-work is very nice, actually. Please do keep experimenting with new designs, but I like this one quite a bit:

As far as "prettyifying" the text goes, all I need is a vector format version, or a large raster version.

That font is nice, but personally I still prefer the current logo.

It looks kind of otherworldly. Given that it's the product of an alternate world/timeline to our own it seems fitting.

And it looks cool, IMO. :)

Does anyone think this logo will make it in before 1.0?

I don't think it is likely since the release candidate is out, but if people beg enough it might. In the end, it's up to the developers.

It would be nice to see a new logo, but I bet 1.0.1 will be out soon enough.
