Wesnoth title logo.

Post by TimothyP »

Is anyone working on a new Wesnoth title logo? The current one seems unprofessional. I'm not saying it's not good art, but I think it would be a good idea to create a new one. I know the level of quality this team is after, and I think a more solid logo would be beneficial.

The current title looks cool. Again, this is just about whether or not the current title logo is the best it can be.

Jetryl has plans for a new logo, IIRC. If anyone is going to make one, Jetryl is the one to have do it, so I think we're in good hands. ;)

I think that the intro graphic also needs some work. Konrad has a new portrait now and the picture at the start of the game looks quite different now (the whole red hair thing). I like both graphics, I just think that there should be a more consistant look to the principle campaign.

Our logo once looked like this:

ironically, I am inclined to think that that one looked more professional, even if it was so abysmally basic.

As for a new title picture, yeah, I'd like to make one. I'm honestly not sure I'm up to the task, though I'd like to try, over the next few weeks. I'll post works-in-progress here if I make any. By being *up to the task*, I mean that I need a certain amount of quality in the final version, and that I have a host of other things to work on.

I'd mutter about things I suck at in art, like costume design, but I'd rather just attack them directly.

You're right, that old logo does look better, but it's too "glowy". Looks like anyone could have made it who has the right software and knows what they're doing.

I look forward to what you come up with. The game will be so good if everyone contributes the best work possible.

Heh, indeed. IIRC, it is a simple script-fu alpha to logo effect made with the gimp. I had almost forgot about that logo.

Sacrilige!

The current logo is cool. The 'Wesnoth' bit is full of character and very recognisable. Perhaps the 'the battle for' could be a bit better, but the gothic text is great!

Hmm, I think the current one looks much better than the old one. As charlieg says is has character, while the old one is just a simple script-fu effect making it nothing special at all.

To me, the new logo looks much better as well than the script-fu one. And, oddly, at the same time, the title screen background image always strikes me as very amateurish looking. So I would say just the opposite of the first post: Change the title screen, but not the logo.

I agree with the title screen art being too amateurish as well.

I think the whole thing should be redone. Both the new logo and old logo look unprofessional to me. Whoever is really good with text design needs to design something original by hand and make it look really good.

This is only my opinion. I believe in the power of a good logo. Right now, both of the titles I've seen don't promote the game very well.

I like the light flame-like effect on that logo. But alas, it won't fit with the current background.

So, what should go first, background or logo?. Because in the end one would have to fit with the other.

Background, as the logo is full of charecter and the background is too "amatuerish" as TimothyP said, it'd be wicked to have a new.

I think the previous logo doesn't look really professional at all. But that's IMHO.

I think a contest might be a little too much. There are a whole bunch of people already willing to contribute without the added insentive of a contest. However, if someone was going to award a prize and advertise the contest to a larger audience, you might get some pretty good outside submissions. Someone should probably just volunteer to create a new logo.
