Good points again!
Murid -> Dervish -> Murshid
Well, we don't really need a level 4. How about:krak wrote:Using prophet or word like rasul can easily be misunderstood by muslim Wesnoth players. We can use murshid instead of this lvl4 holy man. Murshids are like Delfador and teaches the way to their murids.
Murid -> Dervish -> Murshid
Back from the duty.
Wikipedia:"A Murid is also referred to as a Salik."
So it could also be like this:
Salik -> Dervish -> Murshid
Since there are merely minor adjustments left with the names, I think we are ready to begin the units' stat-stabilization process. The general pros & neutrals & cons of Maghrabi go like this:
+ Strong defence on sand
+ Quick
+ Versatile
/neutral
- Low HP
Overall Maghrabi is somewhat similar to the Elves, but much more versatile.

I looked up one or two more things myself. First, since Azhur didn't like "Desert Lad", I found the Arabic for "man." I also stumbled across the name of the branch of the Ismaili Shiah Islam that the Hashishans were members of. And I remembered where their main fortress was, which gave me the name for the level 3 assasin.
Also, since we seem to be going the Ottoman route for our holy men, why not for our light infantry, as I suggested earlier? Although if people prefer the previous names, we can stick with those. Still, these changes would make our tree more consistent.
Anyway, here is the tree, with these proposed changes:

Anyway, here is the tree, with these proposed changes:
Code: Select all
Desert Raider -> Spahi -> Ghazi -- sword and bow, good on sand and plains
-> Sheik -> Sultan -- gains leadership
Camel Rider -> Cameleer -> Camel Warrior -- wields spear; best on sand and hills
Salik -> Dervish -> Murshid -- healer; has leadership
Ifrit -> Genie -> Djinn -- fire spells; gains arms as it advances
Ragel (lvl0) -> Hashishan -> Nizari -> Imam of Alamut -- poisoner; has secondary berserk attack
-> Eunuch Guardian -> Eunuch Warder -- throws "fire pots", may
have steadfast to differentiate from Ifrit
Light Footman -> Layalar -> Janissary
Murshid's essential work was changing people's morality, not kill humans, so with holy attack they can join hostile units to their army like janissaries. With this speciality they can be seperated from mages.Temuchin Khan wrote: Janissaries are European boys confiscated from their parents to be raised as Muslims and trained to be elite troops!
Popular murshid Mevlana's some words from:
http://www.mevlana.net/
"Come, come again, whoever you are, come!
Heathen, fire worshipper or idolatrous, come!
Come even if you broke your penitence a hundred times,
Ours is the portal of hope, come as you are."
We go Ottoman with the holy men because, well, it's rather hard to find another name for them. I would like to keep the infantry names as general as possible.
Nice code Temuchin, just fix the spacings when copying (i'm guessing that's what happened there).
I like the name Ragel

Thus Ragel's Eunuch path could be something like this:
Ragel -> Eunuch -> Harem Guard
I found some Arabian like units from the forum.

But you can't use the Horse Archer because its a elf, and secondly you haven't asked... Shadow's Aragwraith? are a already used faction, no offence the elephant isn't very good, and also is smaller then a horse, and the only slightly decent horse rider has running horse legs for when it is standing still.... You'll have to do better then that.
The Aragwaith should under no circumstances be used in the Arabian faction. They are a faction of their own.
The Horse Rider needs work, but it is salvageable. I might take a stab at it.
The elephant is mine, and I admit it - it sucks. I don't advise you use it.
The elf rider is, well, an elf...

I concur, Shadow's units are a faction for Wesnoth. We are going for something more historical here.
Azhur, IIRC, fusing the Eunuch and Guardian lines was meant to make them more feasible as a combat unit, and to enjoy having Eunuchs too. They should be the leader's internal guard by that.

No problem. Light Footman -> Cardaces -> Immortal it is!Cuyo Quiz wrote:We go Ottoman with the holy men because, well, it's rather hard to find another name for them. I would like to keep the infantry names as general as possible.
And krak, as to the Murshid convincing units to switch sides -- interesting idea, but is it feasible? Would it be too powerful? I don't know, but the questions arise.
I can understand these changes:Temuchin Khan wrote:Anyway, here is the tree, with these proposed changes:

and will janissary (lvl3) have a gunpowder pistol or a rifle? I think rifle better than a pistol for a Janissary.

The corps of Janissaries was founded in the 1300's. We don't actually need to give them gundpowder weapons at all, though it would make them more interesting. Besides, the others seem to prefer ancient Persians for our infantrymen.krak wrote:but I can't find much information about; Layalar, Ragel

"Layalar" was a type of Turkish infantry -- I know because Ral Partha made some minatures for them. Granted, it isn't the most prestigious of sources, but it's something.
I wanted a generic name for the Level 0 unit. Somebody didn't like my original suggestion ("Desert Lad"), so I used "Ragel" -- the Arabic for "man."
Hey, do you know what? Fmunoz has already made some graphics that could be used for this faction.
Check out his Graphics Library page: http://wesnoth.slack.it/?FmunozContrib. It looks to me like the blue turbaned guy (on the second row when I view the page) and the white turbaned guy (near the bottom, third to last row for me) would be perfect for this faction.
So, you don't have as much of a graphics problem as you thought.
