Making an usergroup

Post by Shadow Mage »

I want to make an usergroup, but I don't see any instructions on how. Can someone help me?

Yeah, don't. They are, IIRC, discouraged. And what do you want one for anyway? ;)

Why are they discouraged? Do they make the server slow, or what?

is the reason a group of friends who are working on the same long project want to be unique a good reason?

All I know is there are no current user-groups, no one has ever wanted one, even though I can see many places they would be 'useful'. I don't remember exactly what they do, though.

I would advise not trying it unless creating a usergroup actually does something to speed up progress. If all it does is tell everyone you are working on a project together, I don't think you should try to do it.

Well no, the reason would be organization. It would be easier to find people that have the ability and wantness to help. I want to make a "Imaginators" group. Only people who are serious about making their ideas a reality would be admited.

Do you really think that's necessary? It's not as if the forums are being overwhelmed and one needs to sift through a huge amount of proposals and ideas.

Why not propose a sticky wherein people can tell 'who's doing/or planning to do what' or something. This would serve the same purpose and work better as the forums are the main source of information and getting in touch with others for everyone interested in Wesnoth.. not just a bunch of people who decided to make a subgroup..

Or am I missing something here?

well, I think you are missing something. Titles. With titles, a new dude would be able to tell who to ask for what, and who knows what he/she's talking about. But why the usergroup feature if you don't even like it? Don't make much sense to me......

Hmm, titles? I do think that would be a nice thing. It's a pity mods can't set titles, because the Admins on this forum number only 2, and they really shouldn't be bothered with this sort of thing.

The way I understood it, you have to be a member of a usergroup to have a title.

You have to be a developer, or at least a contributor, to have a title.

perfect. So after Belwar, Warrior King, and I make the great Dark Elf campagin, the title will fit.

I still have this lingering question though. If you guys don't like usergroups, then why have the feature available?
