Shouldn't all the shadows be alpha transparent from now on? Other than that I think he looks cool too, althought I think a hood might add something :)

Actually, I think that he might suit the image of a young inexperienced mage better without the hood (not that a hood couldn't look nice).

Btw. what about renaming "mage" to "apprentice mage"/"young mage"?

Then upon "graduating" the mage attains either the red or the white robes. :)

Anyway, it looks great!!

those are temporary colors, right? it would look strange in the game with such contrasting colors. Most units have one color, two at most, with some shades of grey as well.

Personally, I like the blue mage. And I agree with turin it's nice how units like mages have one dominant color per unit, so they are easy to identify. Mages also have a tradition of ordering themselves based on the colors of their robes, white mages, black mages, grey mages etc.

Could we use this unit for something besides the standard mage? I think it would make a great NPC, or perhaps a human mage leader.

Well this is a WIP still, but I though the old mages lacked the detail and contrast in the late units... anyway is up to the community to decide... i'll be working the attack and defend anims possibly today... then the sprite will be ready to anything you consider it suited to.

I like this image too but I also like the look of the blue mage and don't think we should change it.
On the other hand your mage could be use for a third variant of mage (what about an illusionnist who will be surrounded by fake 1st lvl units?) or as base for a true elf mage (just make the ears bigger) or for the loyalist version of mage instead of sharing it with rebel.

Good

I like it too. Maybe it can be used for some other kind of unit, as was suggested already. Although not the same as the mages, it is rather distinctive looking.

Apropos the mage colors, I find them very helpful in distinguishing lvls. I always have to look hard at the horsemen to see their level.

O.k. this one is much more in the line of what you like for a mage...
