New naga
Some people have been bugging me to get the naga done. I've finally had a moment to iron out a unit or two, so here you go. Comments are very, very welcome.
This line is a line of naga that do poorly in water. They are heavily armored, and strong (for naga), and carry a mace - they are also slower than the naga fighter line.
As I've said before, the naga are not a water race like the mermen. They can't breate water. However, their body shape makes them much better at traversing water than practically any other land-based race, so long as they don't wear anything that would hinder their movement/weigh them down. Thus they can at least challenge the mermen in water, unlike everyone else.
Stat suggestion:
35hp (vs 30 for the fighter)
5 moves, movement in water is like a land unit (no access to deep water)
10% resistance to physical attacks.
6-3 melee (impact)
Besides this, I'm going to make a line of naga archers that shoot poisoned arrows. After that, the naga should be decent enough for the campaign authors who have been bugging me to be able to use them as a stand-alone enemy in campaigns.
(Oh yeah - kudos to neo for the shield, which was salvaged from some old drakes)

This is the level-3 graphic, which really needs a new position for the mace, and a new shield. I will provide this in time. However, the graphic is technically sound, and thus it should work fine for a hasty inclusion, which is what I'm gunning for, seeing as how the next three weeks are going to be insanely busy for me.
In other words, this graphic is somewhat of a glorified placeholder.
I'd like to commit these without animations so people can start using them in campaigns, and testing them in multi.

You could use the more elongated sheild from neo's old drakes I think I have a copy of it. As for the mace, I think under water unit would be kinda of weird with a mace (I would imagine it would be difficult to swing a mace underwater), couldn't it easily be made into a spear / trident.Jetryl wrote:This is the level-3 graphic, which really needs a new position for the mace, and a new shield. Here's the shield. I think it might be nice for the lvl 3.

You seem to have not been reading, attila.
This isn't an underwater unit.

Re: New naga
I always assumed that the nagas were a counterpart to the mermen, for the loyalists or northerns, but were slightly more anphibious.Jetryl wrote:This line is a line of naga that do poorly in water. These look quite good enough to be included. Of course unit artwork can always be improved upon, but I'll be glad to see these in the game.
So now we have a naga fighter and a naga heavy fighter. Eventually might be get some sort of ranged unit and perhaps a mage unit?

I don't think a naga mage is a good idea. 3 units is enough for a minor race like the nagas (the elves only have 4, after all), a naga mage doesn't IMHO really fit the feel of the race, and 3 enemies is usually enough to have an interesting enemy in a campaign scenario.

I think that the northerners need a mage line, but I don't think that a naga mage fits well. I think a troll or orcish shaman would be better.quartex wrote:These look quite good enough to be included. Of course unit artwork can always be improved upon, but I'll be glad to see these in the game.

Northerners don't need a mage line. Not all factions need one. They instead have the assassin, who is in ways similar to a mage, but not the same.

You have a point about not every race needing a mage, turin.
Jetryl posted a while back wondering what kind of weapon the naga might use for their ranged attack. Spines, spitting Acid, and poisoned arrows were all suggested (since I think naga are supposed to use a lot of poison and also be immune to it [if that ability is ever added]). At the least, I think a ranged unit is needed to round out the naga's fighting ability. And I still think Jetryl could do some interesting things with a Naga mage.

I could, but I'm not going to. When I get some time, I will make a new, original shield. Though the round shield fits the naga well, that other shield doesn't fit their character.Attila wrote:You could use the more elongated sheild from neo's old drakes I think I have a copy of it.

On top of which, I just don't usually like copying such things.
I appreciate the gesture, though.

For stupid races, eh? Got a grudge against the loyalists?kangounator wrote:i prefer disto's naga but it would be better with an axe (><) or a hammer because mace is for stupid races

It's not much of a mace, anyway.. it's more of a staff with a mace head. Makes it hard to wield.. especially while bearing a shield.
Personally I'd expect a unit to wield such a weapon in two hands.. optionally the staff-mace can be shortened to regular mace length. I mean.. (the way it is now) it even looks awkward..
