In Wesnoth, a quick look reveals that leadership is taught rather than innate. The military officers, elvish authority figures, and nobility get it. Anyone can have the innate qualities of a good leader, but leading troops in battle requires some formal training.
The shadow line gets leadership because they control henchmen and hippies who want to be in their cult. In this case, the power to mystify and terrify makes their troops more effective when the leader is close by. Also, I don't think it is ever used unless you choose to recruit shadow mages in the final scenario.
I have often wished I could move Baldras close to my troops and have them be led like you do in other campaigns, but I have resisted it because, crummy as it is, I think it preserves the outlaw flavor of things.
Besides, don't you think this campaign has enough custom units? You want more than 21 (28 including duplicates/mods/the avatar)?

scott, how about in the end of game the outlaws fleeing to the isle of the damned to hide from the queen's forces?
The outlaw at the isle of the damned and the thug on the dwarves doors (HttT) are the main characters from the game? Baldras and Harper? If not, why not propose it to Dave? It would very cool, two campaigns mixing.

Sorry that I didn't see your most recent posts. In effect, going to the Isle of the Damned while fleeing from the Queen's forces is the fundamental plot line of the campaign, and it was supposed to be revealed in the epilogue. I always assumed this was clear enough, but with only 3 story frames to work with in the last scenario I might have been too subtle for some people.
I want to announce I have a preliminary release of version 1.10 on the internet (NOT the campaign server). I did it so anyone with a firewall can download a recent version and to showcase some more story art. So, let me know what you think (you need to play almost to the end to see the new stuff). There are some text changes but I'm still working on them. Nothing that affects gameplay.
I'm planning on finishing up my original art goals for the campaign and call it done (updating for changes to the game code). This may take a while, however, since I don't have portraits and I would like some.

I have only one work to describe this campaign: Wow. I loved the pace of the adventure, the choices available, the dialogue, and most of all the story. Not only was there an excellent job tying in with the main Wesnoth storyline, I found the emotional tone of the characters realistic and compelling.
Campaigns like this make me realize just how great a game Wesnoth really is.

logic flaw in liberty
I'm currently working on translating the story and have found some strange stuff.
If the border villages where independant, who forbade them to train with weapons?

"The memory management on the PowerPC can be used to frighten small children."
They were independent in practice, like the Wild West or the far reaches of the Roman Empire. Technically they were part of the kingdom and were subject to their laws - which they followed - but there was minimal government presence simply because of their remoteness. At times throughout Wesnoth's history the main government occasionally had trouble governing Elensefar, which contributed to its development as a semi- or fully (depending on world events) independent province. During Wesnoth's golden age, peace and prosperity made it easy for the country to be all connected - people traveled safely, there was communication between the cities, maybe there was even regular postal service, who knows. After the decline, however, these ties started to decay, and in Baldras' time it had progressed. In another generation or two they might have even stopped feeling like they were part of Wesnoth.
@DemonSax: thanks for your complements. It's great to hear someone is having fun with the campaign.
I'll have a new version out soon compatibile with 0.9.1. There are some new strings, but Torangan says it's not too much more to translate.

Hm. Good point. Should I say the male outlaws are attractive too? Are you also referring to the fugitive and peasant fugitive or just the outlaw and peasant outlaw?capitol wrote:Good explanation.
I find the description of the female outlaws and such quite sexistic, couln't we at least try not to be so gender biased?
I made it match the official in-game description, which says female outlaws look good when fighting at night. Torangan thought the Liberty outlaw should be in the wesnoth textdomain, but I wanted to keep the male description what it is (at the time they were thinking of changing the in-game outlaw's description).

C'mon, capitol. I think its rather amusing. I think scott should leave it in.
However, better descriptions for the criminal units in general would be nice, and if we get them it could distinguish between female and male outlaws without being 'sexist'...
