this is also a really good idea
essentially, have everyone sign up with a faction, give said faction a starting point on a Gigantic World map, lay out a whole bunch of alternate objectives (besides just villages, like items and stuff/ better strongholds/castles)
heres where it gets crazy though. Each person is regarded as a 'commander' in that factions's army. Depending on the rank of his soldiers his 'rank' goes up. The higher the rank the more influence he has over the stratagie of the entire faction. ie; telling other players where they should sednd troops/reinforcements, or what objectives to go after.

They had tried this in planetside a fps no less and it worked ok from what i hear. i think its much better suited for a turn based game.

Could you come to IRC: #wesnoth at irc.freenode.net

Servers are running for latest stable (0.6.1), latest testing (0.6.99.3) and development version (CVS HEAD, 0.6.99.4-CVS). There is no server for 0.6.99.2 anymore.
