New and Old Comparison
I found some old images. This is what Wesnoth looked like when I started playing.
It has come a long way. This isn't even showing the full story because maps are animated now, too.
Those were the large sized portraits, by the way.It has come a long way. This isn't even showing the full story because maps are animated now, too.

Re: New and Old Comparison
It definitely improved.
I wonder if we could have "multiple" game engines, that is, where people could cherry-pick this or that rendering machine. I suppose it may be too much work, but it would be kind of cool if we could fine-tune various things, including a nostalgia-setting to play-it-like-the-cave-men-used-to-play-Wesnoth-once-upon-a-time.
Edit: One thing that is bugging me slightly is the bottom-right widget layout. I know people in general don't like change, but it would be great if there could be some various mock-ups, from which to choose and then change towards that, at the least as an option. I'd like to have more information there and also links that either open an URL in the browser for units, or, even better, in-game browser help for various things (and that could be fetched from the internet; or pre-fetched and stored locally, and then made available).
