now i have made a pikeman to go with it though

At first glance, the pikeman looks a little too thin -- almost anorexic. Tight abs are one thing, but... The buckler on the spearman doesn't really bother me.

only thing I can say about the pikeman, and this was on the old one as well, its not really defined in a few spots (for example where his helmet WOULD touch his pike?) and I dunno the spearman looks really lanky to me.. maybe because hs has a buckler that's so small, but isn't a buckler one that attaches to his arm so he can still hold stuff? maybe it looks bad because it would be in a different spot if it wqere a buckler not a shield. looks ok to me though.

Well, I think it's quite good, and just needs another horizantal pixel added to its waist.

The shields look a little off to me, too.

On the swordman, it seems to be shown in full-frontal view, while the character is at a slight angle.

The spearman shield seems angled about right, but it looks like it's too far off to the side. You'd have to hold your arm at an awkward angle to get the shield into that position.

Well... ummm... i don't have the knowledge or the experience to know what i can do about that except that it is too do with the shading.

No not exactly if you donÃ‚Â´t look direct on an object but from the side itÃ‚Â´s shorter you must "fold" the shield

Oh, same principle as drawing cars from the side, you have to make the wheels egg shaped etc...
