Level 0 for every race ?
Hi,
IMO, every race should have at least 1 level 0.
I don't tell to use "special" level 0 as the "plaguer" zombie for each race, but each race should have a low cost cannon foder to slow down enemy, have watcher to monitor key area, ...
What are your feelings about this ?

Use already existing units. What's the point having those units be level 0, anyway?
Play a Silver Mage in the Wesvoid campaign.
Aaaah! Not more leve 0 units! Whack! Whack! Whack!
Level 0 units have the tendency to overwhelm other units and encourage people to use cannon fodder techniques. Personally I think there should be less of them, not more. I understand your idea that every race should have one to balance them, but I'd prefer we balance their influence by making them less powerful.

Level 0 units are a special, additional part of the game. Lets put it this way... for which factions does having cheap, easily killed units fit the feel of the faction?
....
Would elves swarm someone with cheap units? Not likely, because they are honorable and strong. Plus, an elvish life is most definitely worth more to the leader than an orcish life. So elvish leaders try to minimize casualties; lvl 0 units do the opposite.
Would humans? Not likely, for basically the same reason. (i'm completely disregarded the peasant, because its not in MP and IMHO never should be.)
Would orcs? Of course. Their commanders don't care about who dies, according to all of the scenarios in Wesnoth and most outside sources. So a lvl 0 for these guys.
Would dwarves? Dwarves are few and far between, there are not enough of them to swarm someone. (actually, this applies to elves, too).
Would undead? Of course. WALKING CORPSES = ZOMBIES.
Would drakes? The larger, stronger, slower drakes wouldn't, probably, but the smaller, more commer weaker saurians might. I don't care if these guys get a lvl 0 or not.

All I can say is that I'm 100% with this. A very reasonable argument. And well spoken.turin wrote:Level 0 units are a special, additional part of the game. Lets put it this way... for which factions does having cheap, easily killed units fit the feel of the faction?

Level 0 units just don't suit every race.

Trying to make all factions as similar as possible = a bad thing.
Balanced factions, that's OK. But factions without real differences (except for unit names and bitmaps), that's bad, m'kay? Some races have 0 level units, some do not. That's part of what makes the strategy for playing them different.

I hate the peasant too, if someone wants to make "militaristic" lv.0 human unit, i would propose militia with leather armor and spears - nothing more.

I don't think every race should have a "cannon fodder" unit. Why? Because not all races have that kind of mentality. The Undead do, because hordes of zombies are a staple of pretty much any tale featuring them. The Orcs do, because the side is designed to have a "horde mentality" - lots of low-power, cheaper-than-usual units.
While the Peasant can play this role in times of desperation, I don't believe an established human military would adopt a "cannon-fodder" approach - and I definitely can't see the elves adopting one.

I`m aainst this as well. I was just ranting about how peasant -in my opinion- doesn`t fit for the game at all. If someone "needs" lv.0 human unit in campaign it should be a militia.
Lv.0 units are annoying, overpowered and break the rules of the game.

How are fighting peasants not a militia?Burnsaber wrote:If someone "needs" lv.0 human unit in campaign it should be a militia.
The currently existing level 0 units are overpowered; so what? They can be balanced.Burnsaber wrote:Lv.0 units are overpowered
Play a Silver Mage in the Wesvoid campaign.
The scoop on the Peasant is that he was added for TRoW. The general rule is that 'default era' in MP is based on HttT & there is no Peasant in HttT. The caveat to that general rule is that the rule can be broken for reasons of fun, feel, or balance. As the person that put the Peasant together I can say that I think he would add none of these things to MP (IMHO). I agree with turin wholeheartedly on this subject [Well, his humans might be a little more noble than us, but it is fantasyAkitoScorpio wrote:The Humans HAVE a level zero class though.... look up Peasant on the Wiki.
