Faction Generator!
I (and quite possibly a number of other less than techno savy people) have a pretty difficult time creating factions/eras for use. It hit me, It would be a whole lot simpler (not to mention really cool) if we had a quick and easy "Faction generator" program that would help generate our factions for us.
Here's what i'd like to see.
The faction generator gives you a place to fill in your faction name, up to 20 characters. The generator then shows you a list of all the lvl 0-1 units that you currently have installed on the game, including add ons (a big list). You can then checkmark the units you want to add, and uncheckmark the units you don't want for this faction. Once your recruitables are out of the way, you then move on to a list of all the lvl 2's within the units you selected. Checkmark the ones you want to be possible kings, click accept and poof! your done.
It sounds like a pretty cool idea to me, what do you think?

Re: Faction Generator!
I'm pretty sure it's an FPI. Also, creating units is uber easy. About the easiest thing you can do in WML. Just open a unit file, you'll see how you already understand how it's done. Also, I think someone created something like that in html, on the web, or something... Ancestral, perhaps (hope I got his name right)?

Re: Faction Generator!
indeed there's this: http://eclipse.wesnoth.org/
I has
I has
I think this should do.* It has wizards for new campaigns, scenarios, factions, eras, and everything else you might think of. You just complete the needed values and it generates the wml (with nice indentation).
* It has front-ends for launching wmltools (like wmllint, wmlscope, wmlindent on files/directories), the wesnoth game, and the map editor.
* It has a specialized WML editor that has syntax highlighting, tag folding and outline, autocompletion, navigation to macro definitions and so on.
* It has integrated addon management features that allow to upload or download arbitrary addons.

It's not what I was thinking of, but it works too. Although it's a bit more technical and I'm not sure someone unwilling to open a unit file would go to the trouble of setting this up. In my past experience, it was kinda complicated (but maybe it's because I'm on mac)...

Re: Faction Generator!
You're right, it's pretty complicated to set it up, and it would surely be much easier to just open a unit file.
On windows it's even harder, as you have to install python too before being able to set it up.

Re: Faction Generator!
Maybe i'm just a complete [censored] at faction creating, but I've been trying to create my own faction for like... ever and its never seemed to work. I keep getting a page and a half of error messages. I just want something to fill in all the AI work (etc) with the default and connect all the right files to the right locations for me without me having a chance to screw it all up.
Also, I'm not trying to create new units at the moment, just combine a bunch of other eras that are already out there on the add-ons.

Re: Faction Generator!
I recommend that you post your code and the errors you are getting in the WML workshop. Someone will help you fix your paths or whatever else is wrong. Prove that you are at least trying, and lots of people in this community will be glad to help. Declaring that you are hopeless and asking them to do the work for you won't get you very far.
