The name of various difficulty levels
Iam a Wesnoth beginner, but not a complete newb.
I have completed the Heir to the Throne campaign on normal. After that I jumped into the Southern Guard story and chose the highest difficulty setting because it was called soldier (normal).
Result: Iam struggling quite a lot.
I dont do saveloading so if something goes amiss I restart the current map.
Iam not saying the Iam unable to beat the campaign but during my HttT journey things went MUCH smoother.
Hows that possible? Same difficulty setting and also, this campaign is supposed to be an "introduction to Wesnoth" and thus somewhat easier than HttT.
All I can think of is that it is not the "name" but the "position" of the difficulty setting which matters.
If you have 3 lvls the middle will be normal and the 3rd difficult or hard regardless if the description calls it super easy.
I may be wrong but iam just baffled that I have to restart each map like 4 times before being able to beat it whereas in HttT no such thing was nescesary.

AFAIK you're right about that. On higher difficulties your enemies have more money and/or recruit higher levels. Or the AI goes for a more sophisticated strategy. Plus, in TSG you have very few units that are suitable to fight the Undead (in the beginning only the White Mage and later Outlaws, if you chose to go with them. I'd recommend playing the campaigns for the first time on the lowest difficulty and later, when you are familiar with the turns of the campaign, strategy, game mechanics etc., return to the campaigns and play them on higher difficulty.SchDerGrosse wrote:All I can think of is that it is not the "name" but the "position" of the difficulty setting which matters.

Besides: Welcome!
