updated my gimp version (2.8.2 from source) and played a bit around, didn't have any problem retrieving the desired effect, and my test image looked as it should
still used as the wiki said, nothing special.

After trying for quite a while, we finally got the bump map right.
This is vultraz's version. I might change it a bit later, but it's done for the most part:

I also have the TRoW logo I made back in 2010. I think it looks good enough.
