Re: Legend of the Invincibles
Hello dugi:
The player who send me the bug report of invisible Lv4 units told me that he did not start the game from oringinal files; instead, he started from the start menu, thus the save files may corrupt.
I asked him to do these things below:
-reinstall wesnoth without shortcuts and without any start menu options-
-reinstall wesnoth with its userdata stored in the install location-
-change gaming language to GB(British English), since your game was not translated anyway-
-do not start wesnoth as soon as he finished installation-
And start wesnoth, in the oringinal gaming files.
These steps could effectively fend off most of these so called "bugs", as far as I know.
However, after following all these steps, this guy still get the same bugs, which is rather baffling. I don't quite understand it as well, because it seems that my wesnoth is just fine when testing it. I even used debug to make characters level till 4, but they are still visble.
He used to use 1.10.3, now updated to 1.10.4. After you tell me that 1.11 and 1.10.4 are actually much the same, he still tried 1.11. It still don't work.
All pictures he PrtSced have been posted already. If you don't understand what does it mean, don't mind it because these Chinese words are insignificant.
近战=melee 远程=ranged
亡灵=undead
游击,夜行=skirmisher,nightstalk
移动点数=movement points 闪避率=dodge rate 等级=level
中立=neutral 混乱=chaotic
穿刺=pierce 剑刃=blade 冲锋=charge
They are but some basic trait and weapon specials descriptions.
Please reply us asap, if u can.

Re: Legend of the Invincibles
What? Is there supposed to be a difference between starting the game from start menu and starting it from an .exe file? That's absolutely weird, I always started it from start menu (both on Linux and Windows).The player who send me the bug report of invisible Lv4 units told me that he did not start the game from oringinal files; instead, he started from the start menu, thus the save files may corrupt.
This has no effect on the game. All that the shortcuts nad start menu options do is that they open the the .exe file.-reinstall wesnoth without shortcuts and without any start menu options-
If the add-on was loaded (the campaign was there), this should not be the problem.-reinstall wesnoth with its userdata stored in the install location-
I've seen screenshots of the game with different languages, and they seemed to have it working.-change gaming language to GB(British English), since your game was not translated anyway-
The installation of Wesnoth on Windows is not much different from unpacking an archive - either the .exe file and .dll files are there and you can play (missing data files will not affect UMC, unless it uses some of them, and loading the baseframe pictures does not require any macros).-do not start wesnoth as soon as he finished installation-
The problem is probably related to failing to locate the pictures, but I can't understand what is it, especially if it happens only on a single machine, but on all installs of Wesnoth. Like I said, the contents of his stderr.txt file (it is in the install folder, near the .exe file) after experiencing that problem is something I would really like to see.However, after following all these steps, this guy still get the same bugs, which is rather baffling.
You shouldn't have even bothered with writing the translations there, I have difficulties even to tell one symbol from anotherIf you don't understand what does it mean, don't mind it because these Chinese words are insignificant.

Re: Legend of the Invincibles
I came to same conclusion either. Those who use above XP seems just have normal day. I previously already tried your suggestion, but it doesn't make any difference. Well, there's another reason to doing upgrade anyway. Anyway, thanks to your suggestion, I'll tried in dual OS machine with other version of XP, see if the problem persist, or just upgrade it to 7.Dugi wrote:..According to the results, it appears on Windows XP, and only on certain installations..
Anyway, here's the stderr.txt from my game.

Re: Legend of the Invincibles
Unfortunately, stderr.txt contained no essential information (I saw that you removed the overlay icons, but that's all).
Trying it on a different OS installation on the same machine might provide us some clues.

Re: Legend of the Invincibles
Found.
Apparently it has something to do with XP Black Edition that has been modified for gaming mode. I dont know what exactly it is, but for those who
encountered the same problem as me, I suggest to update your SP to the latest one, or revert back to original XP.
Thanks.

Re: Legend of the Invincibles
Thanks for yor quick reply.
So, it's only on my system after all, thats too bad. XP can be ruled out as the culprit as I use Vista (*sigh*).
By the way, the lag not only happens when you scroll but also when the resepctive unit is just on the screen or the unit is selected, you point your cursor anywhere and the game tries to calculate a path. Maybe this provides a different angle.
Anyway, I'm interested in the partial solution you mentioned. What exactly can be done about it?
I'll also try to make another installation of the stable Wesnoth version later and try out your campaign again.

Re: Legend of the Invincibles
@minardians That idea with the WinXP Black Edition looks quite reasonable, because the problem seemed like if something was changing the way things are calculated.
@Vagnard This looks really like if something was trying to alter the way the units' properties are read. Maybe Vista is doing the same as WinXP Black Edition, didn't you try to install some optimalisations there?
The idea to reduce this lag was bad and would not have worked after thinking about it more deeply. How long are these delays? About 70 milliseconds like on my machine?

Re: Legend of the Invincibles
The lags start out in that area, but gradually become worse. At first it's just the hexagon not being under cursor instantly when you select a path, but it builds up to seeing distinct single frames during an animation, so definitly more than 70ms.
The problem also occurs in Wesnoth 1.10.04 with the same magnitude.

Re: Legend of the Invincibles
I shall ask about it in Tech Support, developers might know better the guts of the game.
Re: Legend of the Invincibles
Thank you. I'd very much like to continue playing your awesome campaign.
Re: Legend of the Invincibles
If you know more about the problem than I wrote here, you might want to post it there.
Re: Legend of the Invincibles (chapter 6 is out)
I have tried that, but it seems that the Orcs have unlimited gold and its hard to even get close to him, even with the update where i get the normal units. and whenever efriam and Delinia level up they dont get full health so that doesnt help it eitherKonrad2 wrote:@SlayterKonrad2 wrote:@Jim
just collect villages before you cross the river (with efraim as first of course) and then it is a normal battle between your army and his
I am the Nightgaunt, I go around unseen in the night and slay you from behind when you don't expect it.
Re: Legend of the Invincibles
Collect the villages before crossing the river as the characters suggested, and then cross the river. The orcs have a lot of gold on hard, but you can have lots of villages and a huge income.
Anyway, I decreased its difficulty, just update add-ons.
EDIT:
I released version 2.2.12. I added one new unit, Duke, as an advancement to Grand Marshal, fixed a bug in crafting, and done the things mentioned above, and as the most important change, I made the items in the list of items that can be crafted show their name in red if you cannot make them (so I didn't need to add the craftometer there, making nickg4000's work useless).

Re: Legend of the Invincibles
It is solved bro. That guy reinstalled add-on once again and the bug disappeared, for no reasons this far
Re: Legend of the Invincibles
I would say that it was some random data corruption, probably in the binary_path.
EDIT:
I added that Phantom as an advancement of Deathblade, also cleared some mess in the defence (should be perfect now) code and improved animations for dragon breaths (this had quite a negative impact on its size), new version 2.2.13.
