Faction use for dummies. please help!

how can i download/use usermade factions? Personally i've been having alot of trouble working anything outside of the standard 'map editor.' I'd like to make my own thief/rouge class eventually, and have tried and failed to do it a couple times. For the moment though, i'd be perfectly content to mooch of of ya'll's hard work if i knew how. If one of you experienced wesnother's could help me out i'd be most grateful.

Click "Add-Ons" in the Wesnoth main menu.

I should say, if i was going to play a local game that a list of the new factions would appear there for my selection before i start the game. The old factions along with the new, everyone and everything, so to speak. I'm not sure if there is another way to turn a user made map into the equivalent of a single sinario, or select the races before hand. I have a few of the add on's downloaded already, but i cant seem to find or use them.
Also if i make a new class/faction, how do i bundle them into another 'era'

When you hit multiplayer game and reach the first screen, click the button labeled "Default". That'll activate a drop-down menu.

About the creation of your own era, check the wiki. Copying somebody else's era and editing from there might help if you're having trouble.

How to create scenarios and factions... although that second link is a bit silly. I wouldn't follow it blindly, since if you want to create an era the only really relevant part is the final paragraph.
