Even looking at the line-sketch, I thought it was an edge of a book. Tome of Evil or something.zookeeper wrote:The only detail which looks odd is how the necklace (the one which untextured looks like a bar of soap :mrgreen:) rests on the hipbone

A necklace is what it's going to be. Il make sure I make the hip more obvious, though.
Schedule update: 6 portraits are done to this day. I initially aimed for an early june completion, but this obviously didn't happen. Partly because I've made those portraits a lot more ambitious than I had initially planned (two ogres instead of one, high res full figures) and so worked slower than anticipated, partly because life happened and I was proposed a couple of contracts that I couldn't refuse. You'll have noticed a change in pace over the past two weeks : that was it. I'm doing the portraits on part time only, and still will be for two more weeks. Given what lies ahead on both professionnal and personnal matters, I think I should reasonably aim for completion by the end of august, if this is ok with the powers that be.

The troll warrior has a tiny head. Is that because he's just really huge and his head looks tiny by comparison?
And this has always bothered me about denuded (if that's the right word for "lacking flesh") undead, but what exactly is holding our friend Mr. Lich's bones together? Sinews? Magic? Shouldn't he get some magic cold light in his joints or something, to demonstrate what exactly is holding his bones together? Perhaps an very light outline of his human face, and his eyes in the same light?
Other than these very minor pet peeves of mine, this thread is made of awesome! I love the green robed lich, especially.

Re: LordBob's commissionned work
Hi team,
I'm finally done with those other contracts, but didn't stay idle in the meantime. Here comes the lich, complete but for lines and some minor decorations : spider webs, dust, ...
Compared to earlier versions, I've made several tweaks that should secure better bodily proportions, and removed some of the more cheesy floating streaks of cloth.
Next I'll start the Eastern Invasion cast.

Hmm...
I still find the way the book/talisman is resting on his hip weird, you expect it to be hanging in thin air.

Re: LordBob's commissionned work

Either way, I'm willing to call this a minor flaw and keep the portrait unchanged. There are other portraits awaiting, right now.
On a side note, further studies for Gweddry's outfit. Being the main protagonist and an officer, I feel some manner of tabard is in order. Thus, my likeliest pick is the left-side outfit, combined with the pose of the right-side portrait.

You are my hero!
The Lich looks great,
really great;
but a little to "friendly"...
He is somehow not scary enough.
I can not say why...sorry...

Well, I did notice he looked slightly hipster-ish, but beside that, I couldn't say what you mean either...Adamant14 wrote:but a little to "friendly"...

I really love every piece of art made by LordBob.
Every single piece, the Lich included.
The Lich looks great, really great.
And he looks indead much better than the actual core Lich;
but I miss something terrifying.
I can not say what it is ...,
so all I can say is that LordBob's lich is great.

Re: LordBob's commissionned work
Maybe it's that brow ridge of his that makes him look "friendly"? It looks very realistic, but IMHO, not menacing enough. And the fact that skulls always smile doesn't help at all. I made a quick edit, lowering his "eyebrows", just to illustrate my point.
BTW, I like that talisman-inside-the-pelvis idea very much.
It really shows that there is a skeleton under those robes.

Re: LordBob's commissionned work
Great thinking ! It's amazing how much can be achieved with such a simple tweak. A good reminder that I should more often value expression over realism. Thanks

Maybe if you change light direction you can have a more ominous looking skull and also keep the realism (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_wpYDJINz5ic/T ... ine+1.jpeg).LordBob wrote:Great thinking ! The hanging chain looks like it is made from metal but the curve is not very smooth (also on the rib cage, i think the weight of the hanging part would straighten it because metal is somewhat slippery on cloth), so contradicting messages are sent to the viewer there.
And does the lower rib really reach out to the front so much?
The soft shading of the cloth folds looks awesome : )
