Re: Steampunk Era

Okay, so I haven't done much with it lately, as my life's been a bit chaotic. Hoping maybe to pick up a bit now that things might be settling down in a month or two.

1) I want the Elves to be Elvish and the Orcs to be Orcish, and my ideas of those don't match anything very well -- although the Earthdawn world comes pretty close.

2) The reason that the Thieves' Guild and the Merchants' Guild are called Guilds is because they are Guilds. In the world I'm building, there's a very large bourgeois element; these factions actually originate in an alliance of mercantile city-states.

3) If I made the Empire much more German, the creators of Warhammer just might sue me. But yeah, that's the direction I'm going, and I'm probably going to add more flavor to it.

4) Oops on the medic line. The Field Hospital was originally a level 3, but was rebuilt into a level 2. And I'm taking inspiration from 18th Century Warfare, where the Field Hospital is extremely slow, but heals a ton per turn, thus making actual tactics a bit more important than just rushing.

5) I'm definitely including the bayonet charge as a viable option for the Imperial units, and how capable they are at melee versus ranged is determined by their upgrade path. But a bayonet charge against opponents carrying shields and swinging broadswords or slinging exploding fireballs isn't going to be nearly as effective as mowing them down with musket (and later, more effective rifle) fire.

What about an alternate upgrade for the medic, who uses the good old amputate-as-fast-as-possible-because-the-pain-helps-the-healing-and-not-desinfect-your-surgery-equipment ways on his enemies and grantes some resistance bonus ("I feel much better!)"? Or an Ambulance, who is still able to move but is not as good in healing as the hospital?

So it happened. My computer died, taking my little bit of progress with it. There's nothing wrong with the hard drive, it's just the power supply. So the project will just be on hold until I get access to the hard disk, or decide to start over, whichever comes first.

This is fairly low-steampunk, in my opinion. It's like 1890, but with 1940 technology, rather than magical industrialism.

Powershot... A four-month-old thread isn't really "dead" enough for that. Especially in the summer, someone could simply not have time to commit to updating a project for a few months. Now if this thread were close to a year old or much longer, THAT would almost definitely be a "dead thread." Something to consider before you try to act like a responsible lurker. Just take a hint from me... lurk a long time and learn the rules by observation. You'll come off a lot smarter.
I will now resume lurking silently.

If timberwolf comes back to complete this era (or someone starts to do it because it looks so good)-I really hope so- I think I could make the German translation.

I REALLY hope that someone will do it. I thought about doing it myself, but, still, it's only 4 months of break, and partly summer, also. :|
I think that if that hiatus gets to 10 months, that'll be enough. :(

Maybe the Thieves' Guild should be called Sydicate? I think that fits far better to the rest.

So I started the translation, so we have something finished.
Das Reich (the Empire):
Luftpiraten (Sky Pirates):
Diebesring (Thieves' Guild):
Handelsinnung (Traders' Guild):
Elfen:
Orks:
Legionen für Utopia (Utopian Legions; my favorite faction  ):

*sigh* alright, I'll be spritin this. Slowly. (It's not like we don't have time, right?)
Not here, since it's F&ED Forum, so what I'll do will be (eventually) on my art thread.
Anybody other interested in this crazy projects by (what a coincidence) 3 people to whom some Quiz said they are Silver Magi?
(What...)
BTW, frankensteins are not bad. If done well.

I think many people have lost interest in this. But I haven't. I think we should poll wether this project should keep on going.
