[interface] Hotseat (Local game) begin turn dialog
Recently, I've been playing hotseat Wesnoth game with my brothers, and we had to end our turns turned half way back so we wouldn't peek at opponents' map. It was pretty much annoying. I thought it would be nice, if after ending a turn and before beginning next player's turn there was a small dialog like "It is now Player x's turn" with full fog and empty HUD (income/villages/gold etc in the top of the screen). I strongly believe this would really enhance hotseat gaming experience.

I remember this being proposed before (here is the last thread I found - without much replies), and not rejected.
I think it just does not bother the developers enough to actually program this, but if someone will submit a patch to do this, it will be integrated. (Of course, this is just my impression, without any guarantees).

Local mp games are rarely used for playing I guess but to develop mp scenarios instead where such a feature would be plainly annoying so it needs to be optional.

Are they? Or are they just under-reported? I played lots of hotseat games with many of my friends years before I even logged onto the MP server. They continue the tradition. In fact, I'm the only one of six people I know who play Wesnoth who ever play online MP. Yes, it's a wanted feature. And quite old, in fact: gna item.
Somebody wanting to implement this might want to wait until the architectural changes to MP are in, though.

When there's only one person in the hotseat playing all sides in order to test a scenario they're developing, and now has an extra click per turn to make.Insinuator wrote:And what Hotseat scenario would be "plainly annoying" with this feature?

Or when playing without fog or shroud.

I think this feature would only be useful when playing with fog or shroud - as without them, you can see what your opponent does anyways.

I've been thinking that I could make hotseat versions of some maps by adding extra non-playable sides. Hm, I think this is a good idea since it doesn't look like anyone's making a patch anytime soon.

That's not a bad idea. There's probably a more elegant way to solve this in WML, but if you're just using it for playing hotseat with friends and family, functionality is more important.

I totally second this.
My brother and I are now old enough to make a hot seat really work, but I remember good old Amiga500 times when we sent each other out of the room and tried cheating to see where the other player is or what he's building (I think it was EMPIRE back then). The first time (my counting) I was beating him at BATTLE ISLE (I was only two hexes away from his HQ) he said that our mother called us, I went out to ask what she wanted, and when I came back the computer showed a hand with blue 3,5'' disc and he said: "I don't know! Guru Meditation."
It's probably not that important, but a nice feature.
I bet you three times at BATTLE ISLE, brother, not only two times! It's just that I actually - don't ask my why - I really believed the computer crashed that day. I TRUSTED YOU. But I also understand that you have to take special measures at the age of sixteen when losing to your 6 years younger brother in a STRATEGY GAME.
Sorry, my psychatrist told me to let it out.

Anyway, I'm working on hotseat era, it's a little harder than I though but it should be ready soon... so no worries, we'll have our safe hotseat soon!
