It is definitely a word. Look at the link in my post. It's a Greek javelinist.

You might as well say Ulfserker is a word.

and it's a unit, isn't it? :D
Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the drug store, but that's just peanuts to space.

It shouldnt have level3, so whats the problem with the name javelineer; its a word, and its understandable.

About the stats; i think it should be 3-9 melee and 2-12 ranged

um... you mean 9-3 melee and 12-2 ranged, right? 12 strikes is rather a lot...

Ah, the cuttlefish javelineer, it sounds like - now we can have a sea-monster faction so that the nagas and mermen have something to fight!
as kingfishers catch fire
so dragonflies draw flame

Back to the actual discussion, how would this unit be implemented? Is it just a 3rd upgrade option for the spearmen? I think it's simplest not to change the swordsman or pikeman unit trees.

I think that this would just be an upgrade/ alternate branch of the spearman.

Well, when people have decided on the final stats and position in the unit tree, the javalineer should be added to the Unit Thread sticky. Hopefully it can be tested and implemented soon.

I think that this is a realy cool idea overall, however I do have some stuff to suggest
1 spearmen are supposed to be the bulk of the army, so why not have the javelineer gain a bonous from other javlineers.
2 we could have them be sort of a low level commander.
3 we could have them be the much needed medic for the human civ.

Got it :!:
I just thought that it seems like just one more unit. What is the difference between getting hit by a javilin and getting hit by an arrow?

nothing. but then again, whats the difference in getting hit with a thunderstick shot and getting hit with an arrow? its just one has less strokes and does more damage. javelin is in between; 2 strokes, not 1 or 3.
