Re: Vranca´s sprites

Post by Vranca »

I think its because he doesnt have the bulky armor like the marshal does. maybe ill reduce it in width for one pixel. OK so ill use this pose for him. by the way does he look like hes leaning backwards?

EDIT: I did some adjustments,so how does it look?

Looks nice, but the body and head look in different directions. A simple horizontal flip of the body should help.

Not bad, pretty good handling of form there. The flip might not be necessary; I've drawn several sprites with the head one direction and the body another. Makes for dynamic posture.

Agreed. It depends how the rest of the body comes out, really.

Here is an almost finished version (the crest is still missing). What do you think about it? Crit is welcome.

The body feels rather too long for the legs. I'd suggest reducing the height of each abdominal by 1 pixel, and giving the extra room to his thighs.

His legs are too short. Look at your avatar, you'll see that with the same size of leg armor there are three pixels of legs between tunic and leg armor.

I feel he's falling backwards. Moving the legs apart should help, or maybe only moving our right leg.

Apart from legs, this sprite looks good.

Ninja'd.

Thanks for crit, but i have a few questions...

Could i just elongate the legs, cause i realy like those muscles?

ill try it after i make them longer, and see how it looks like.
And is the shield good,i have some doubts with it?

I feel guilty for not posting a week before, but what's wrong here is..the pose, and some lost potential about it. As TSI already mentionned the head and body and turned in different directions, as if he was looking left (his left) while his body is turned right. In the week-ago version the shoulderover which he looks seemed raised, that was a neat thing if you made his pose more dynamic - shield arm raised in defence and weapon arm getting ready to strike.

Now his pose is like "duh, guard duty, hey what was that over there?"

as for the legs - i'd take a pixel off the right (our right) legs thickness..playing around with single pixels might also be of use on the feet, but with that shadow that's no longer an issue..hmm oh look, the spear top is not casting a shadow?

TBH,if the main issue is the pose,i won´t change it because it would require redoing the whole sprite(unless more people say it´s no good,or they tell me a way to make it better without redoing everything),but if you have a suggestion for another pose then please post it,i could use it for other sprites. :)
I´ll try those single pixel things and see how it looks, and i´ll fix the shadow.

Im nobody important, but I like it because an attack animation could be nicely crafted with that sprite, pretty much holding true to the way you would imagine a spartan hoplite fighting with the way their body would be positioned relative to the spear and shield. The legs also look less "active" than his torso is, like below the waist hes relaxed, but above hes ready to fight.. i dunno just my 2c, i have a hard time drawing the legs of sprites myself so maybe its just me.

Are you making these for a faction or campaign or something? just wondering
