College!
Hey there. So, I'm a senior in High School and having just finished studying for the SAT i'll be taking the day after tomorrow, i started thinking about all the college-related decisions i'm going to have to make soon. Then it occured to me that the wesnoth community is fairly mature on average, and might be a good resource for people my age. So, any advice/stories?
I'm hoping to be a physics major, but i'm also interested in electrical engineering, materials science and environmental science. Favorite schools so far are the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy NY), Northeastern University (Boston), and Rochester Institute of Technology (Rochester NY). I wouldn't mind getting away from the east coast, in case someone has any good suggestions
.

Re: College!
I'm taking the SAT on the same day.
Currently thinking about architecture as a cross between engineering and art or just plain engineering of an undecided variety. Art major is for fallback.

Working out crazy scemes to get rich so I can have my house designed by Zero!
I don't know how American or British college systems work, but where I come from college is largely for people who want to learn a skill that can be used, while university is for people who want a degree to impress thier parents while they work at mc donalds.
It's been a while since I was wondering whart I'd study, my parents thought I'd make a good biologist or genetic engineer (heh heh!) but I'm not mathematically inclined. I applied for a couse in computer graphics, but anyone who has seen my attempts will see how it's good that I didn't get in ..."original" doesn't always mean "good", sometimes it just means ...well, "original". I'm doing my M.Phil in Ancient Cultures now, I took a lame B.A degree hoping I'd be able to change over to graphics at some point, after a while the prospect became distinctly unatractive and I could not consider doing anything other than postgrad Ancient Cultures.
Moral of the story:
Go with what you like and what you're good at. If there is a conflict between the two, go with what you like!
Don't go for that "I'll study this, I'll get the degree and I'll work for this company" plan, stuff happens, you may find what you wanted to study is actually really boring, or that the relevant department is comprised entirely of <obscenity>munches or that something or someone else just captivates you. Trust me, you won't be doing yourself or anyone else any favors by sticking with something you hate because you don't want to dissapoint people/yourself. You may think money is important, and it is, money is no fun when you are too old and too sick to enjoy what you spent your whole life accumulating.
Enjoy learning.
