I'm going to get 1.9.0 see description!
I'm going to get 1.9.0 and want to know if it's possible to carry over my save data, add-ons, and maps from my old version to 1.9.0.
Any help would be appreciated!

Sure, if you really know what you're supposed to do. If you don't, then it's probably better to just start from scratch again.

Since some old terrains (e.g. flowers) were replaced with overlays, not all maps may be directly compatible with 1.9.x. Certain developer would say that running wmllint on them is the best way to fix any incompatibilities, but I'm one of the few reluctant people who refuse to use automated tools to do the dirty job.Pentarctagon wrote:maps: yes

At some unspecified point in the near future, I too am upgrading my Wesnoth (form 1.4 currently).
It actually all depends on my brother really, he went and burnt the whole newest Ubunto supository to disk and will lend me his supository when he feels like it and has finsihed with it.
so: what is the version on the newest Ubuntu Linux, is this the latest Wesnoth? and what have I missed out on since 1.4? (probalby a lot)

...apparenly we can't go with it or something.

The latest stable Ubuntu (Lucid; 10.04.1) has both 1.6 and 1.8 (sources: 1, 2).Midnight_Carnival wrote:so: what is the version on the newest Ubuntu Linux, is this the latest Wesnoth? and what have I missed out on since 1.4? (probalby a lot)
To read/see what you're missing out on, see these pages: 1.6; 1.8

You speak English, so that can't be an honest mistake.Midnight_Carnival wrote:and will lend me his supository when he feels like it and has finsihed with it.

How can you tell? We don't even know where he lives (we probably don't want to know anyway).

I have the latest version of ubuntu (10.4) and I have wesnoth 1.8.0, but I don't think I can get the newer version with the better lobby. (and 1.6.5 isn't really worth having: about 3 games on the multiplayer lobby at once, and maybe 10 people in total).

Code: Select all
<uninstall wesnoth>
sudo aptitude install build-essential
sudo aptitude build-dep wesnoth
<get wesnoth sources from sf.net and compile>
