Updated Ladder Rules?

Post by Cackfiend »

I searched the ladder website and the gigantic ladder thread but couldnt find anything about the new ladder rules. I had someone (thefish I think) tell me its ok now in ladder games to play with Random time of Day and also SHROUD. Is this true and where can i find this written down? Also can we please just get a mod for a random map picker specifically for the ladder? thanks

Rule number 13 "If both players agree that a situation that isn't covered by the rules arises they can, if they agree on the solution, decide themself how it should be handled."

Apart from this there are no rules governing starting TOD or shroud.(I assume it is up to players)

Random mod was designed mainly for ladder even if it dosnt have ladder in name. It was first called Competitive Gaming and then I renamed it to RMP to be able to update maps and to add popular set. Im curious however why you think we should have special ladder mod :) maybe some suggestions?

About rules, well they are the old ones + you should use updated random mod (published in ladder news) and thats all. However as there is cool rule nr 13 everybody can do whatever he wants :) and nobody is able to enforce anything :) I remember I saw people laddering on randomly generated maps :) .

Kind of a sorry state of affairs in my opinion. By the way, I've been telling people that the 1v1s I made (which are most of the defaults) are not balanced for random TOD. In fact, just the other day, I watched The Fish playing out two ridiculously unbalanced matchups with random TOD on Silverhead Crossing, in which Northerner, and then Undead (in the next match) were unable to exert any early game pressure at all, and just got blown away when day rolled around. I guess there are more unbalanced things than this going on with the ladder anyways, so maybe what we're left with is just "who cares."

This isn't really a dig at anyone, and I do like the current admins a lot, even if I think the policy is a little wacky. :)

well i just came back after some time off and theres all these new maps. there seems to be huge balance issues with the and although im a fan of trying out new maps playing one in the ladder probably isnt a good idea (learned this last night). if there was a mod to randomly pick one of the approved ladder maps (im guessing only some of the new maps are approved?) that would be great then u could maybe make a rule that you have to use this mod to play ladder unless both parties agree on a specific map and p1/p2 setup.

The RMP (Random Map Picker) add on has 4 different map collections: Popular, Safe, New and Devel. Popular has only the old maps, Safe has the old and the best new maps, New all new maps i think and Devel only candidate maps. Currently all maps can be played for ladder but I would only use the Safe collection for playing on balanced maps. Also the Add on gets updates regularly so watch out for new versions on the add on server and post suggestions for improvements. ;)

BTW: I often see the Competitive Gaming map pack in use for ladder games. This is the old add on and it is obsolete. It contains very old versions of some new maps, won't be updated and should not be used anymore.

Well new maps were added to give some extra options (even if were unbalanced) and improve with time, however there is little interest in making them better imo, and their creators dosnt care about them much anymore. Im going to clean this up in near future but any comments in RMP forum topic will be highly appreciated.

Just noticed this thread, its all about the random map picker project right now. you see, i would love to decide on the latest version of the mappack when all guys are online, kolbur, Q, CC and me we r always trying to find a nice consensus. but of c this doesnt mean that i dont like to have other guys around to tell me what they would like to have changed, at least they would have the opportunity to do so. id really like to do something this week, and the discussion is coming to an end already in this thread: http://forums.wesnoth.org/viewtopic.php ... 42#p450342 i suggest: have your say, because i would like to leave it (after the update) like that for some months again.

besides the map discussion id also like to start sniping at the timer settings. they r REALLY bugging me, and NOBODY has presented a reasonable change to it yet.

and CC, work on your creepy maps non-stop from now on, just in case ;---)

Figure: just check this out, wanted to find a nice pic about work and had to snort with laughter when i saw this one
