No, no. I only change colors and add arms. I wasn't trying to say that it was mine, if that happened.

I know you weren't trying to, but saying "I made [...]" could cause some people to think you drew it from scratch, so TSI was just clarifying that it was a frankenstein, and that shadowmaster drew the original.

Ehhh, whatever, it was just a misunderstanding. No big deal. :)

There is hardly any hint of tone on an internet forum, save for the occasionnal smiley, so you should disregard tone altogether. And even if the tone WAS supposed to be "unfriendly", the best course of action would still be to just ignore it (the tone), else you might fall into troll feeding and flame wars before you know it. And nobody wants that.

Also, this has bothered me for some time: why do we even have this thread? Shouldn't it be just moved to Art Workshop/locked with a suggestion of where to recreate it?

I know. We all know. It's no problem, it was just a small misunderstanding. It really wasn't even your fault. Forget it and move on. :)

The main problem is that the art in this thread is bad art. With the exception of Zerovirus, all the sprites in this thread are just poorly edited splices, and that is the truth. I don't think this crowd wants to have their stuff next to wayfarer's, and I don't think the other thread wants it cluttered with crap. I certainly would not post any of my little sprites in the art thread. I think the spriting is a valid art form, and that there have been breathtaking works equal to any million dollar painting, but again, with the exception of Zero, the people posting in this thread are simply not good enough.

@Leid: TSI was as nice as he possibly could have been about your sprite. Most forums would outright insult you personally.

Meh, I dunno about that. That's why Art Workshop and Art Contributions are two separate forums. As I see it, Art Workshop is for anybody to post their stuff up for comment, or simply share, whatever quality it may be. If someone is "not good enough", it certainly doing himself no good to just stay in his corner: how is he going to improve at all? Sure, he could practice time and time again, which is fine, but sometimes having your flaws pointed out helps.

Also, most of the stuff posted in here is just double posted in Art Workshop in their respective creators' threads, so why have this thread at all?

There are plenty of thread that started real bad in Art Workshop, but a lot of them have developped quite nicely. Pick one, be it from someone you judge as "good", "medium" or "bad", and given enough pages, most of them will have improved lots.

Anyway, feel free to not post your stuff if you don't feel the need, I don't mind. But I still think this thread serves no real purpose whatsoever.

If I could pick on Artisticdude for a moment, I'd like to point out that he is an incredible example of this.

Everyone is an example, from the highest of art developers to the lowest common citizen of the workshops. I'm not excluded either.

However, a few questions should be made. Why do we have this thread when there's a stickied art thread not too far above this posting? Right now, the only purpose of this thread is to divide artists into boundaries based on their own confidence in skill, and that doesn't sound beneficial in any real way. The people who post most of their work in this thread are essentially hiding away from those who frequent the two established art subforums, which not only is something of a self-deluding conceit, but also detrimental to their own improvements in art.

I think most of the people here aren't that interested in critical feedback, at least not yet. If they were, they'd make a thread in the Art Workshop. I am really not serious enough in pursuing artistic greatness, and though I can't speak for everyone else, I think they feel similarly. This is more like "oh look at what I made, please recognize it with some trite encouragement and I will be on my way". But if there's a growing concern that it is a waste of space, I don't anyone will be too unhappy to see it go.
