IMHO it doesn't. especially one composed of bright red wood, bright white cloth, and dull metal...

It sure need some revision for the colors, but the idea stills good.
"Umpure" weapons/armors can give them more exotic flavour.
And, about the white, is not white, it's something like vanilla (248/248/216) that is used in almost every weapon/armor here in wesnoth.

I agree.

Lv 2 should be quick to get, and level three even harder, but I certainly like the idea.
