The points 1-5 are in random order. The part 3 and 4 are the parts that make them really good in ARMY vs ARMY fights.
In my opinion.
1. 6-2 is not as impressive as 4-3 poison. 6, or 12 fixed damage is too little for orc/trolls high hp.
2. no upkeep is good, that's why I stated "spam this when the battle turns into an upkeep war".
3. return damage is minimal due to WC's low hp. it takes average 1 archer to soft, a grunt/troll to pick up the WC kill.
4. WC's 18hp can not hold important position to protect your valuable units. Northerners can easily tear through walls of WCs even during day. Ghouls are much more reliable on protecting the rest of army.
5. Very good ability, have one around to make more WC is always nice. However, 4-5 WCs are way too many and will make your frontline soft for Northerners to break through.

WC cost 9gp, ghoul cost 16gp. So you get 1,8 WCs with the cost of 1 ghoul. So the real damage amount is 10,8 or 21,6 vs 4-3 poison. And btw you can't poison already poisoned unit.6-2 is not as impressive as 4-3 poison. 6, or 12 fixed damage is too little for orc/trolls high hp.

This means your opponent just used 2 units and 2 hexes to kill your WC, which means one of your more expensive units just didn't receive 18+ damage.return damage is minimal due to WC's low hp. it takes average 1 archer to soft, a grunt/troll to pick up the WC kill.
That's why you should try to avoid making frontline of only WCs.However, 4-5 WCs are way too many and will make your frontline soft for Northerners to break through.
I guess our usage of WCs is a bit different. I'll edit my post in that regard.
