Song for the day.

Post by Midnight_Carnival »

Music threads always turn into mostly on metal threads, so before we get there I'd just like to say

1) blues pwnzz jazz
and
2) I'm glad emo is finally dead.

Tell me what the song for the day should be.
...apparenly we can't go with it or something.

:D thank you, I love clasical music.

The reason I actually posted this thread is because I don't have single musical bone in my body. I can dance fairly well if I feel like it, but I can not produce anything musical.

well I one day got this bright idea about a rock-opera called Hitler vs Stalin, it didn't glorify either side, nor did it glorify the war, instead it would present things as they were, with lots of explosions and no good guys. for the Nazis I was going to go for between thrashmetal and like classical music inspired orchestral metal, for the Soviets I was going to do the whole heavy industiral hardcore thing... It was fine when it was just an idea, but then the music started when I started thinking about it.

There is this one song called The Serviceman's Wife, it was fairly soft in comparison to the others, it was all about like the men going off and gloriously getting themselves blown up and the women being left to deal with all the crap afterwards. It is on of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard, only I didn't hear it, but I didn't make it up either, it just all came to me. The big problem is that I can't hum it, whistle it, drum it out with my fingers, let alone play it on electric guitars and violins + church organ. I can't even sing it to myself when nobody else is around  . So unless a shiny demon shines forth and tells me to play it the best song in the world, I'm stuck with this one in my head. That's why I wanted to know what the song for the day should be, because maybe I'd go and listen to that and get it stuck in my head instead, maybe I'd even oneday forget The Servicman's Wife.

Duuude, thats messed up good

Heavy industrial hardcore thing is really not the music to describe Stalin and the Russians during World War II. Imagine one line of infantry with guns, the second behind without, then again one with guns and so on. First line falls, second line picks up their guns... Ok, this was ripped of from some movie, and a bad one too, but still there is too much sanity in industrial hardcore to paint this picture.

Sorry, no, I'm not serious. But if you do not play an instrument, but still would like to create moods with music maybe you should get some DJ-Software (like Traktor or something like that) and mix some music into a soundscape. Of course it would require some practice and a little love for electronic music or something equally repetitive, suitable for mixing with other tracks.

Serviceman's Wife... go turn on some white noise and wash your brains out!
[edit] I mean, flush that tune out, not your brain. sorry :) [/edit]

cheers

Sing it into a tape recorder ( or whatever the hell they use to record audio now ).

Then, play it back to someone you like who can play an instrument. See if you can get them to collaborate. Repeat if necessary.

La Voce del Silenzio (The Voice of Silence) By Andrea Bocceli and Elisa.... BEST SONG EVER

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWDd78rxGRc

And I thought that perfect music was a myth...

Well, on the rather less-girly side, I could add Funtwo's Canon Rock (Pachelbel's Canon on it's adapted version by JerryC)

(Hope posting youtube videos is permited O.o)

Actually I did it this morning but deleted it because I didn't think "Canon Rock" was an accurate name for it.

Gotta disagree with you on that one, and although arguments could be given, it all comes to to personnal preferences in the end.

About you Hitler vs Stalin thing: You might be interested (and unsurprised) to learn that Stalin's favorite instrument was the snare drum. You might also want to listen to Chostakovitch's Stalingrad Symphony (is it the 5th? the 7th?), in which snare plays from the beginning to the end. You might also be interested in listening to some russian classical music, such as Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain, maybe some Rimsky Korsakof (yeah, he mostly ripped that other dude, which name I can't recall), maybe some prokofiev, and possibly Stravinsky's Russian ballets, although I'm not sure Stalin appreciated them much. On Hitler's side, you might want to listen to Wagner's operas, which Hitler liked. Plus, Wagner wrote some anti-semistist stuff, so that's a plus, I guess. And you assuredly don't want to do any reference to jazz, rock, or any kind of pop music, if you're gonna be historically accurate.

Appart from that: I'd say the song of the day is anything punk-ska, 'cause I've got about 40 punk-ska songs to transcribe for an upcoming concert :P

A pretty good pick, it's indeed in our set list :) Although I, for one, prefer Streetlight Manifesto (the band), for the higher quality of its brass section. Catch 22 ain't bad either, and The Aquabats have a few funny songs :P

Oh, and Mad Caddies have insane brass lines too, as far as punk-ska goes! Listen to Monkeys or Road Rash!

I couldn't even sing it alone and too myself.
But, there is a silver-lining at the end of this stormcloud. I may not be musical, but I have an innate talent for over-the-top profanities. I managed to sing the tune by making an appoximation out of swearwords entirely. I haven't sung it to my friends who are into electronic music, but my other friends think it's cool. It is now know as "the mother ____er song"! Shall I record it and post it?

@ Dixie:
I don't hate all jazz, there is some African jazz I like, then there is percussion jazz and piano jazz which I could grow to love. My problem comes with that heavilly improvised stuff where they get all jazzy. Blues just speaks to me... but you agree that its a good thing emo is dead right?

I LOVE Streetlight Manifesto. This One Goes Out To.... is my favorite.

What about the Mighty Mighty Boss Tones? They're ska, I'm pretty sure they're ska. And they're awesome too...
