Re: WSRSW (voting on scenarios and campaigns)
Thanks for your feedback, grrr.
Some of your ideas are interesting; some of those I'm already working on. Other ideas go into another directions than what I'm working towards/aiming for.
Some of your feedback is probably based on observations made while not being logged in, which could give you the impression that the website is meant "for simple voting". If people vote on scenarios, their front page changes. Currently, the system adds an image behind the scenario that indicates it was voted on or also favorited. Users can hide/unhide their favorites.
If your nick matches one of the author's names for a scenario, you will be able to edit the scenario. I'm working on this and the code is almost finished.
There is already a page that allows users to change their preferences. To that page, I will add a checkbox that will enable/disable target=_blank; thanks for the suggestion.
I know CSS; I added the white background color deliberately because of future plans. (This is related to custom background images that might otherwise make the text unreadable.) I will take your other feedback into account.

But why not have the background color of the box (now light blue) the same as the background color of the links (now white)?norbert wrote:I know CSS; I added the white background color deliberately because of future plans. Re: WSRSW (voting on scenarios and campaigns)
I've updated some code and added new features. Changes include:
- If your nick (not your "Displayed name") matches one of the scenario's authors, you will be able to edit that scenario. If you want me to change your author name on WSRSW, let me know. Also, the other way around, if you already have a nick on WSRSW and you want me to change it to match your author name, let me know. Editing scenarios might be useful if, for example, you want to link to a thread on this forum. You might also want to link back to WSRSW to get more votes/favorites/whatever for your scenario.
- Links are no longer opened in pop-ups/new tabs by default. In your preferences (click your nick next to the "Logout" button), you can turn this on. Since the default was to open in pop-ups/new tabs, users who already created an account may currently have this enabled. (But, again, they can disable it now.)
- I've changed the background color of the links to match the current background color of the div/span.
- The top tables now show whether or not the scenarios have comments, since those are displayed below the voting table. This prevents needless scrolling down if there are no comments (yet). See for example this scenario, in the bottom right of the top table.

Re: WSRSW (voting on scenarios and campaigns)
WSRSW now also displays statistics of all observable games that were played on the 1.8 server. The statistics can be found in the south-east section of the scenario pages. See for example the statistics for Colosseum (3p version), The Labyrinth Of Champions and 4p - Isar's Cross. The statistics are updated once a day and parsing started on 11 May 2010.
Note: If a scenario does not display any statistics even though observable matches of it were played, please let me know via e-mail or private message. The reason is that some scenario's names on the website differ from how they are used in the code. Two examples: 1. "The Labyrinth Of Champions" versus "Labyrinth Of Champions", and 2. "Wesnoth_Tower_Defense" versus "Wesnoth Tower Defense".

Please remove the username (most active player) from your data collection. Data should be collected anonymously.
More importantly, it should not be displayed without consent.

Re: WSRSW (voting on scenarios and campaigns)
By playing observable matches on server.wesnoth.org, users - as far as I know - agree that replays of their matches are added to replays.wesnoth.org, and - again, as far as I know - there are no terms of use limiting my use of the data at replays.wesnoth.org. In my opinion, an opt-out system is suffice: if you don't want your nick to be displayed, let me know via e-mail or private message.jb wrote:Data should be collected anonymously [and] displayed without consent.
Re: WSRSW (voting on scenarios and campaigns)
No. The burden is not on the user, it is on you. Most users don't even know your website exists. Therefore, they cannot tell you to not display their nick.if you don't want your nick to be displayed, let me know via e-mail or private message.
You can site terms of use all you want, but the fact is you're putting other peoples stats and nicks on your website without their permission.
Re: WSRSW (voting on scenarios and campaigns)
I want to be very clear: 1. I'm not going to remove all nick names, 2. I won't discuss this any further.
Re: WSRSW (voting on scenarios and campaigns)
i totally agree with norbert.
could u update the "random mod map" to the currently used version, with "6 new" and "all 17" maps? this would be interesting.

This doesn't seem to work for me .. is it case-sensitive?norbert wrote:I've updated some code and added new features. Changes include:

Re: WSRSW (voting on scenarios and campaigns)
Could you try again, I've changed the capital B to lowercase.boru wrote:This doesn't seem to work for me .. is it case-sensitive?
Which one?Rigor wrote:could u update the "random mod map"

(Six new and all seventeen maps?)
Re: WSRSW (voting on scenarios and campaigns)
yes, both, how did u know ?

Re: WSRSW (voting on scenarios and campaigns)
I was just repeating what you wrote... I have no idea what scenario(s) you're referring to, sorry.Rigor wrote:yes, both, how did u know ?
If you can tell me which ones - with links, maybe - I will update them.
Re: WSRSW (voting on scenarios and campaigns)
Your FAQ (and perhaps other pages) specify a background colour but leave the text colour up to the user, making it unreadable if the browser is set to use light text. I'd suggest specifying a font colour, too.
Re: WSRSW (voting on scenarios and campaigns)
Okay, it's working now ... thanks.norbert wrote: Could you try again, I've changed the capital B to lowercase.
Some suggestions:
- It might be useful to let people add a campaign to their favorites without requiring them to rate it, especially in the case of the campaign creator.
- As grrr mentioned, 6, 9, or even a 10 point rating scale would be better. I have never played a Wesnoth game that deserved a "low" rating in enjoyment, nor in difficulty.
- There are some individual campaign scenarios that I absolutely suffered through, but rating the entire campaign "low" seems harsh. Yet, "normal" isn't quite correct either ... I'm not sure how this can be addressed.
- Also mentioned before: those extra windows make it a bit difficult to get around.
Good luck with this project!
