Thanks for the interest you've all been taking in this portrait ; turns out advice was more than needed and gladly received :)
Here's the (hopefully) final snarl of the big guy.

EDIT : also, rough shading of the orc archer. Just to get a quick review of the overall light angle and colours

Muuuch better. I'll get this guy committed (grunt alt, presumably) tomorrow, and he'll release with 1.8, though he won't be used, I suspect. Assassin, too.

Is one of these guys supposed to be a Warlord, or have we not seen that yet?

Actually, I believe Zookeeper has some plans for this guy. From what he told me, he intends to switch him with the current default orc warrior (that's grunt #4), who would in turn become the default orc warlord, thus replacing the last comic-style default orc portrait.

At least that's how it'll be in 1.8.
If you have a look at the earlier pages of this thread, you'll comme across grunts #7 and 8, who wear scavenged steel plate. Once complete, these ought to become warlord portraits

Ah righto. I'll check with him then, before I do anything. We do have enough orcs now to replace the current Warlord portraits, of which there are 5, but it would be nice to have some distinct levels for our orcs, too.

Keep it up =)

The archer: Your lighting is grand.

The grunt: Right on! Those eyes practically oose with anger and viciousness. :D

any chance we could get the first post edited to show all of your finished orc portraits bob? I'd love to look at them all side by side.

Great work, as usual.

Committed the assassin. Also made the warrior/warlord change mentioned above, so there's no old-style warlord portraits in core anymore (the mainline campaign usage of the old portraits was also converted).

I love these orcs...

One little notice on the new archer. The scabbard and the bow are totally in line, which looks a bit... weird. Tilting the scabbard even a tiny bit would fix it. But it's no biggie, and it should have been noticed in the line art in order to be easiest to fix.

Anyhow... Fantastic work.

The light source on the Goblin Archer does look excellent as far as how clear/correct it is, but the contrast means that the picture draws the eye to his shoulder/back, behind the picture, and it's rather hard to make out his face from a passing glance. It just seems like a focus on the wrong thing, to me.

It's an excellent work.

don't have a problem with the scabbard & bow aligning, that works as long as the shading defines the depth & spacing; but the scabbard looks a wee bit too short for the blade he's holding...

he should maybe upgrade to a "trojan xl"?

Dear Lord Bob,
is there any chance that you might provide the right elbow of the orc archer, if I ask nicely with sugar on top?
I fully understand that cropping on the left of the picture is according to the rules, but I really dislike the cut off of body parts.
Thanks for your patient with my humble request.
