Hi Tyr,

Thanks for the detailed comments - there's a number of good suggestions and feedback in there which I will attempt to incorporate into the campaign next time I actually get a chance to make some changes. That probably won't be for at least another 6 weeks or so as RL is too busy ATM. Will definitely keep your comments in mind though.

Thanks again.

Mark

Just posting to say that I think the campaign is good. (Actually better than FtF, which had really unpolished custom art) and was wondering if you were still working on it? Apologies for necro-bumping.

Anonymissimus, in another thread wrote:The third Drake campaign I know of is also nice, Children of Dragons in 1.4 days. Looks like it's in need of a new maintainer...
Hulavuta, in Fossil thread wrote:I have decided that Drakes will be in the campaign. Kahn, leader of the Drakes from the legendary campaign "Children of Dragons" will make a personal appearance in a very epic scene. (That will take place a lot of time later.)
...So I decided to contact MarkP about updating the campaign, and he answered...
MarkP wrote:Sure, go ahead. I've still got all the source files if you want them. Just no time to maintain it at the moment.
I'm resurrecting this thread to announce that I just uploaded an updated version of Children of Dragons to the 1.8 add-ons server. :D This is what I did:
  • Gived silver crown to Ober in scenario 9
  • Campaign converted to the new carryover system.
  • Made it so the custom terrains used now appear in map editor.
  • Fixed all wmllint errors
  • Added team_name and user_team_name in several scenarios.
  • Added textdomain string to terrain.cfg, terrain_graphics.cfg, macros.cfg, deaths.cfg, Drake_Chancellor.cfg, Drake_Lord.cfg, Drake_Noble.cfg, added also +{SPECIAL_NOTES} to the latest three
  • Scenario 9: removed an [image] and several {PLACE_IMAGE} (box and barrels are placed using custom terrains), moved several [else] inside their [if] tags
  • Fixed deprecated WML (continue and continue_no_save) in scenario 2, 6, 9, 13
  • Created _main.cfg and gived abbrev and ID to campaign, this means that now the campaign has the ribbon if won.
  • Added ENABLE_ARMAGEDDON_DRAKE to _main.cfg and a small note about this in scenario 1
  • Gived silver crown and traits loyal, strong and resilient to Freon
  • Renamed all custom drake images with the prefix "drake-", corrected image paths in _main.cfg and removed folder external_binary_data to avoid having a Drake Noble as icon for Count Kromire
  • Fixed wrong amounts of gold gived to the player when opening chests in scenario 7, also now gold.ogg is played when finding gold
  • Scenario 8: fixed a message said by second_unit (it was second unit), added [if] [have_unit] so Gakk can try to say a message only if he is alive.
  • Scenario 12: fixed macro TREMOR -> QUAKE and a bug that made the amulet disappear after reloading the scenario, also finding the amulet now makes the fog disappear
  • Other bugfixes that I forgot...
There is still one thing left to do: update the music playlist. I already have some ideas about this, but I'm open to suggestions. Also, please report any bug that you'll find and I'll try to fix it.

Holy crap, hell yes.

All I need is Forgotten Legacy to be on the 1.8 server and my life will be complete. (Flight to Freedom, Forgotten Legacy, and Children of Dragons are the three campaigns that inspired me. Now the two Drakes ones are online. YES!!!!)

BTW, why did you quote me? I don't see how it was relevant.

Also, I would recommend transparentifying these portraits http://forums.wesnoth.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=20554 to use as the guys portraits in the first level, (and the other levels for Kahn) (Just for the record, that's the portrait I will be using in my campaign when he appears.)

I'm happy to read that you liked it.

I just quoted two of the posts that convinced me to give it a try. I must admit that I started thinking about updating the campaign after playing Fossil...

Thanks for telling me this, I'll read this thread and see what I can do.

Hmm, glad that I inspired someone to do something good. If you ever need any help, I'm always willing.

The portraits are probably a good idea, because in levels like the first and second, there are two or more guys talking subsequently with the same face. lol

And so that Stakron and Harkon have different portraits, you might want to use the 1.4 Clasher portrait, and maybe use the 1.4 Glider portrait for one of the Burner council members. (That way, all council members, the two Drakes fighting for leadership, and Kahn will all have new portraits. That topic also has pictures of a few council members, but they are full-body and not protraits.)

Just wanted to pop my head in to express my thanks to Elvish_Hunter for resurrecting CoD. And thanks Hulavuta - it's nice to know people like it.

As Elvish_Hunter quoted me saying, RL is simply too busy ATM to be able to spend any time on this. I'm glad someone else has the time to look after it properly. :) Have been kinda meaning to put it on the list of unmaintained campaigns but just never got around to it.

Well, if I had known it was abandoned, I probably would've tried to maintain it myself lol.

Now I wonder if I can take over Forgotten Legacy...

Be careful not to shoulder too much Elvish_Hunter. ;)
After abandoning A Gryphon's Tale I was wondering whether I should pick another old campaign...CoD was on the list, now it's Elvish_Hunter's. ;) Thanks.

What's so cool about Forgotten Legacy ? I only know that it's a Saurian Campaign (I'm in favor of underrepresented races ;)). It's on the 1.4 add-ons server, is that the latest version ? Even then, it isn't avandoned that long, and the changes between 1.4 and 1.8 are rather few as opposed to the ones between 1.2 and 1.4 (<- There the "new" terrain system comes. No chance without (1.4) wmllint. ;) ). It's also a matter of how complex and well-written the wml is, though. The original dev has already had some long phases of silence and then popped up again but he's asking for "someone to do the work" and thinks that he can't finish it because of lack of time. Sorry for offtopic.

Well, yeah it was a Saurian Campaign, but it was also one that was released when I was a in like 4th or 5th grade, still a kid so it's pretty nostalgic to me too. But if he's looking for someone to do the work, maybe I should take it over...

So many thanks... Don't worry, Anonymissimus, my work with this campaign is almost finished: after adding the portraits that Hulavuta said, and updating the music playlist, I won't need/plan to modify it again until Wesnoth 1.10 beta will be released, except for bugfixing.
Hulavuta wrote:Now I wonder if I can take over Forgotten Legacy...
Give it a try: install Python, if you haven't it, try to run wmllint and wmlscope (I don't know why I can run wmllint on Win, but not wmlscope... I must try to update my Python version, and eventually learn how to use IRC if it's a bug). Then, try to play it (the fun part :P ) and keep an eye on your stderr.txt/console output. If, after this, you feel that you can maintain it, at least for 1.8, try to PM db0.

Is it just me, or is Khan almost entirely useless? Really weak for a level 1, so I tried feeding him kills hoping he'd have a great level 2/3 (See Konrad). But the level 2 is naff aswell :(

Not got too far, since I'm terrible and the campaign got hard, but is there a reason he's so weak?

@Elvish_Hunter: I've already PMed db0 about it, but I have no idea how to use wmllint...

@Taimat: I was thinking Kahn was pretty weak too. But I guess you shouldn't use your leader much in battle. (But I do think he should be a bit stronger)

wmlscope didn't work for me on windows, too. There seems to be a bug with the way ressources from [binary_path] are handled - a lot of things are reported as unresolved, although they aren't. When invoking wmlscope in the exact analoguous way on Linux this problerm doesn't happen. The basic problem here is that hardly any umc dev uses wmlscope and hardly any of the devs uses windows it seems. So please harass esr a bit to fix things. :P

Zero upkeep leadership units are always great. I tend to use level 1 units, it saves money. But I didn't find him weak for his own, too.

I know this is really NOT the topic, but db0 said yes to my offer to become maintainer of FL, but he still wants a ton of creative control over it, but that's okay.

EDIT: Plus, I don't know a thing about how to run WMLLINT even after reading that whole thing...I'm just gonna go the old fashioned way and change stuff as I see it.
