I think the gold made the hammer even worse. It was too shiny to begin with. Also here is a grain of salt.

Updated version, darkened the hammer and got rid of the gold. Are the outlines too dark? They aren't pure black, just a very dark grey. Almost done the master swordsman melinath, got one more frame to finish, so I'll probably post it tonight or tomorrow. :)

 Sorry about that (I could have sworn I uploaded that file :? ), I'll fix that…

Here's my (long overdue) revision of the master swordsman's attack. I'm hoping this is finished, but I know better than to assume so. If there are any bugs in this, please point them out so I can finish this soon. Currently working on the crossbow attack, haven't yet started the shield bash animation. Sorry about the jerky GIF, I'm still learning the ins and outs of GIMP, so I had to use photoshop. :annoyed:

TSI was right... the current motion does look a bit windmilly. I think I'll try playing with this a bit tomorrow, see if I can come up with something to show you what I mean.

If you look at his shadow in the last two frames, it seems to be a lot lighter than the shadow in the first few frames.

Hi, I know there is an update pending (or so it seems to me anyway) of the armored saurian.

I think one problem with the saurian is that it still looks (size wise) like a repaint. The helmet itself (and also the body armor, but less) needs to take up space. Making the head (including the helmet) a tad bigger - 1 or maybe even 2 pixels - should help.

Here's a revision of the swordmaster. I added a few frames of prep and release.

Whoa, that's cool! :) Love the motion blur, looks so much better than mine (I'm going to use that style for the rest of my sprites). I get the part I was lacking, not enough preparation frames, right? :(

Well, you seem to have completed this sprite, not much for me to do here. Unless you have anything you want fixed (though you could obviously do it yourself much better than I could), I guess I can give my full attention to the shield bash and crossbow animations. Thanks a lot for helping me get introduced to the world of spriting, BTW (I know you must have had your patience tested to the limits by my 'work' sometimes).

An issue with the motion blur: you need to make it less circular - true, the motion is a circle, but it's offset from the plane of the screen, and so it should be slightly elliptical.

@artisticdude: The problem with your prep frame was mostly that the swordmaster didn't move down or back at all, but he needs to so that he can leap forward. The main problem with the release frame was that only his arm was moving - I shifted his body by a pixel or so. I also added another release frame with no motion blur; I should have also moved his body by another pixel, but I got lazy.
Spoiler:
I want to make sure that you know that I could not have made this version without everything you've done on it. Thank you so much for the good, consistent work!

This attack animation is, in my mind, more or less complete. You're welcome to tweak it a bit more, if you like. The motion blur getting fixed is the only critical thing at this point. If you want to move on, though, that's fine too. :-)

Did I sound sour in my last post? Yeah, re-reading it, I guess I kind of did (sorry, I didn't mean to :) ). I enjoyed making this sprite, and both you and tsi have been very helpful and patient with me. Thanks a lot. :)

How about I do both? I can try and tweak it a bit more and work on the new animations. :)

not putting too much strain ono yourself?
well if not I'd best give an idea what animation you could try making before any comes by itself ^_^
could use two explosion anims - both from an artilllery/mortar bullet/bomb hitting the ground, but one covering just a single tile, and the other spreading over the surrounding hexes as well (biiiig artillery bullet)

you're welcome ^_^

meanwhile i can't help the feeling that he's throwing back that shield a bit too far behind

Looking at it again, I think you're right... it looks a little like he's wrenching his left arm out as he strikes.

I second the shield moving way too far back in the animation
