If you're going to pay for it, shouldn't it be the other way around? Anyway, Wesnoth on ipod touch is fantastic, and what is 5 bucks compared to Wesnoth? I'll have to check out this ipod version of my favorite game.

@#$@@*&$^#*&*$&%^@#*&$%^ I guessed that there might already be something like that happening but I was to lazy to look through more than just this thread (and that the first 5 pages) Sorry.
You'll also find info on the update which has already been submitted to Apple (and resubmitted after a minor setback)
Yeah at least I saw that part before posting :P

I beta-test the Episode II and the speed improvment is really really greeeaaaat !

The main bugs are corrected and this is cool. I finished some skirmish games without any crash.

Now for the new bugs :
- A display bug in the attack-style choice with units with more than 2 possible attacks (like orcish archer).
- The auto-save when interrupted crush the auto-save at start of a level.
- The new campaign seems great but crash a lot in the "A real confrontation" scenario (since turn 3, I need to interrupt during the computer turn and reload the game to allow it to finish its turn without a crash).

Another bug, but I don't know if it is a iphone specific bug or a map specific bug :
Dark Forecast (Survival) :
- sometimes, enemy units disappeared
- sometimes, enemy units have more HP than their max HP.

I understand where you're coming from, but the reality is one cannot expect a person to read an entire thread just for one question. If the answer truly is, 'read the thread', then by all means say so, but writing it this way is very demeaning.

I've been just as guilty as you in the past, but the fact is, it's not fair to tell someone 'you should have read this big thread' when they just have one question. I can't expect someone to read big threads just to get a quick answer.

I mean this guy was even very humble about asking and you pretty much talked down to him like he's lazy or something.

Sorry to be off topic.

I asked a question in another place that was just answered here about Zooming, it took me about 10 minutes to make that post, first by searching, then registering my account, then searching the forum, then posting. By 10 minutes I didn't feel like scanning through a thread for someone mentioning the Zoom function. Wish I had found this thread sooner. If I was more clever I may have thought of searching 'wesnoth iphone zoom zooming' or something.

What? Why wouldn't I expect someone to read a thread if they were looking to get an answer about something? In reading he would have found the answer faster than if he posted and waited for someone to respond. Not to mention that it can slow down the progress of a thread if the author is constantly answering the same questions.

I think it would make perfect sense then to expect someone to actually read the thread.

I have no idea where you think I talked down to him, as I gave him a polite reminder to actually read the thread before just posting a random question. The irony here is that you are the one talking down to me and lecturing me when there is no need for you to do so. Particularly since your off-topic opinion on it is entirely unnecessary.

Ok, so I've been lurking for a while on this thread, and I just made this account like 10 minutes ago. I downloaded this game off of appulo.us about 2 weeks ago. After playing a couple campaigns I was furious about how a developer could let a game with this many crashes and bugs be released but after reading through this and a few other threads I am happy to see that this game is in active development. In fact I applaud Kyle Poole for the work he's done on this game. I have one suggestion for this game though. Why don't you make some of the campaigns downloadable from the main screen. I don't know much about developing games, but wouldn't that help with some of the memory issues? Like keep HttT and a few other campaigns and make the rest downloadable as add-ons (for free of course ;)). Well other then that, all my other suggestions have already been mentioned. So as soon as the update is approved by apple, I plan on buying this game to support the cause.

having less campaigns installed by default wouldn't really help with memory issues, just saves some disk space.

Also, apple expressly disallows anything resembling content-distribution that bypassed the appstore.

This is totally false. There are several games that allow for in game map downloads, off the top of my head I can think of Lux DLX and Warfare Inc.

There are so many precedents for "content distribution" inside apps that it is absurd to say otherwise... So many book apps like Kindle and Stanza, so many music apps like Tap Tap and Rock Band. Many "cam" apps which allow the accessing of webcam streams and the same for music apps like Pandora and Last.fm (although these last don't allow the actual downloading, only streaming.)

Having established that this is possible, and absurd to think otherwise, lets reask Bialo's question:
Why don't you make some of the campaigns downloadable from the main screen
The developer actually semi answered this question already. He said that the maps have to be optimized for the iPhone/iPod Touch version... basically everything has to be shrunk to work with the memory limitations inherent in a mobile platform. So you can't just use existing maps.

That doesn't mean that he couldn't release the new requirements though, and allow devs to port their own maps (or others to port popular maps). He could then focus exclusively on bug fixes in the app itself, and allow map developers to work on their own. If he hosted the server that fed the app, he would even have the ability to do some quality control on which maps make it into the app.

Edit: Further, he could significantly decrease the size of the app by removing all but one excellent campaign and the tutorial. =)

I think this is a brilliant idea. Then, you can download other campains as you go, based on your interest in them. This seems better than getting them all at once.

True, but WML comes with scripting, and Apple expressly disallows any sort of downloadable interpreted language that doesn't pass through the App Store.

Somehow other games have scripted maps and figure out how to work around Apple. Again, see Warfare Inc.

Or it could be due to the notorious randomness of appstore reviewers. But we're getting way off-topic.

I thought about the idea of hosting a separate "iPhone add-on server" of course, and eventually as the number of included campaigns grows I will move toward this solution. But for now, the size of the add-ons are relatively low compared to the total package, eg will you notice if it takes 200mb or 210mb? Plus the addition of a new featured campaign every update is a huge marketing strategy, and I can do things like this:
