Re: Wesnoth for iPhone out now!
Thanks so I can share this, that was kind of what I have be wondering for years, because closed source you can not just redistribute, and it can even be punished by scary brein and Tim Kuik.

YES I HAVE PERSONALLY ANSWERED YOUR QUESTION ON IRC, SO HAVE THREE OTHERS IN THIS THREAD. For some reason you keep ignoring the answer we give you, only to continually make your ridiculous argument that we're doing something illegal or that we;re going to sell our source code. Its shrill and ridiculous. You're a troll and we've warned you about it.Seeker wrote:
You ignore my questions to, I asked if its illigal to download a opensource game for free and install it on iphone, so what i am wondering if the GPL alows this, like just build ir from source or just crack the oginal and put it for free.
And the Iphone port is not in sync with the PC versions I just found that out while playing 2 player survival on iphone, and ofcourse people will hate players from iphone as they play slow because of the controls, it seems right now the iphone port isnt getting much reviews in appstore, and I still dont see the free one.
I suspect having one foot in the past is the best way to understand the present.

Whether you're allowed to redistribute something does not depend on if it's open or closed source. It depends on the license it's under.Seeker wrote:Thanks so I can share this, that was kind of what I have be wondering for years, because closed source you can not just redistribute, and it can even be pushed by scary breain and Tim Kuik.

Re: Wesnoth for iPhone out now!
Clever defusing attempt, but this has gone on long enough. You have raised your point and had it answered multiple times on here and on IRC, so this discussion is over. Any more posts of the same will be deleted.Seeker wrote:I prefer elvish Captain over a troll to play really, not kidding here

Re: Wesnoth for iPhone out now!
I'd just like to add myself to the list of people who have said this game is great. I was unaware of Wesnoth before the release of the iPhone client and now I've been enjoying both the OSX version and iPhone. Thanks for all the work that goes into this project, and the 4.99 was very reasonable considering the amount of content and apparent plan for consistent updates.
Re: Wesnoth for iPhone out now!
ANYWAYS....
The Episode 2 update is available now for beta testers to download. Please be sure to leave feedback, as work on Episode 3 has begun.

Re: Wesnoth for iPhone out now!
After some more time spent with the game, I have to say I'm anticipating the update greatly. There are some pretty severe bugs and issues with this release.
I'd like to second the suggestion to use the Wesnoth shield as an icon rather than the current one. It's very busy for such a small space.
Also, the "reset, reinstall, reset" did work well in improving performance, at least in my case (on a 3GS).
Keep up the good work people.
By the way, how would one become a beta tester for this application?

Re: Wesnoth for iPhone out now!
Hmmm, about the icon, it seems that users click on a game for more info based on a good icon. Icons with characters look a lot better than others. I also plan to have a new icon for each episode, with something to do with the featured campaign.
Here's the next icon for Invasion from the Unknown, it looks pretty good on the device...

Re: Wesnoth for iPhone out now!
I... erm... the problem is, no one's going to be able to tell that the game is high fantasy, if you do that... :/ None of the biomechanical stuff in IftU is canon yet, anyway, and regardless, it's set tons of years after when the main content of the game is set.

I like the idea of different icons for each update. Though it trades simplicity and easy recognition for variety. To be honest, I'm happy we're getting an update soon, regardless of icon.KylePoole wrote:Hmmm, about the icon, it seems that users click on a game for more info based on a good icon. --Edit--
I just went back and checked my icons, and almost all of the game icons are of characters. So, at least anecdotally you seem to be right about that. However, most of those "character icons" are close-ups of faces. Have you tried zooming in to see more details in a head-and-shoulder look instead of full body?
Re: Wesnoth for iPhone out now!
I mean, if you really want to take a character from IftU, why not Anlinde or Elynia or one of the elves? Then there wouldn't be risk of thinking Wesnoth was a steampunk game or something.Zarel wrote:I... erm... the problem is, no one's going to be able to tell that the game is high fantasy, if you do that... :/ None of the biomechanical stuff in IftU is canon yet, anyway, and regardless, it's set tons of years after when the main content of the game is set.
